I love my Spydies, but wish there were new models in my price range. Seems the new models are pricey.

Are there any new models in a budget price range?

If you tell me you price range I'll do a little research and make a post stating what they are.

As with all things...you get what you pay for in the world of Spyderco knives.

the Cat model i bought was very affordable. being new to Spyderco im not sure how new of a model it was tho

Save a bit longer seems to be the answer. Rather then buying two budget knives buy one expensive one.

The Cat was discontinued pretty fast. I think that was one of the models made by a new manufacturer that didn't end up capable of putting out quality work.

The Cat (and Chicago) were put back into production last year with a change in blade steel and scale material, as well as removal of the jimping.

That is the cost of newer knives, new tooling, new steel, new collaborations, etc. I remember 3-4 years ago, everyone was clamoring for new steel this, new lock that, etc. now we got it. The price hike comes with the territory. Sal himself stated many times in various threads, some models are specifically made for the steel junkies or "afis". One thing is true, no one can accuse Spyderco of having limited selection. The cost of EVERYTHING is going up and usuaslly moves in one direction. They make knives for almost every budget and even consider legality. Can't really ask for much more than that. Just my opinion of course.

To tell you the truth, I think almost all of spyderco's models represent a tremendous value. I'm my opinion, something like the manix2, gayle bradley, or paramilitary 2 are about as budget friendly as it gets for the amount of knife you get.

Personally I'd like to see more really high end stuff like the upcoming Southard flipper.

Eek, thanks for the info! I didn't know they were back. Have to pic up a Cat.

Yo Mama! hey...not sure how new it is, but the tenacious is pretty "inexpensive". seems decent, but please take with a grain of salt, as i have never used one. good luck.

it is and it is. I have one, an ambitious, para 2, para 2 sprinte, manix etc... Its not as buttery smooth and the para or manix, but its also only $30 or so.

Alas, they both have liner locks :( I haven't had any problems with a liner lock, but was spoiled on the back lock and cbb locks.

I love the look but has a liner lock, .....and made in China. I'm sorry, just can't get over it. Taiwan, I'm fine with now. Love my Enduras. But I just have a mental black hole for China.

Fully agree, love the Manix line as well. IF the transparent blue one was screws vs. rivet I'd make this my next purchase. I'm feeling I never had a Stretch, so I may go with it, but would love another cbb lock instead. Just an amazing feel to it.

Salt, forgot about that one. Like the Tasman one better, as I don't have a blade in that shape yet. Dragonfly was also a possibility but really to small for me. Squeak is a slipit....I have a few Case knives already. Balance would be cool. Surprised me that they are going around 70 bucks for the ss model!

i saw two separate postings for the Sage 1 in the exchange yesterday. one was $100 and the other was $90. made in taiwan. that one i have played with...and, i like it a lot.

Actually found a new Sage 3 for 105, so maybe another option.

Stretch is awesome, try that one out. When you said budget I initially thought of only the Tenacious family, but up to $100, you have some decent choices. Yeah the newer models (Tuff, Techno, Southard, and some others) are pricey, but Spyderco has some decent ones under $100. For me, Spyderco's sweet sopt is in the $100-$150 range, most I want fall in that category.

You really can't.

I don't think there is another knife manufacturer who is more in tune with the
many, varied demands of their customers.

Smart really, once everyone has a knife,
you have to get creative if you want them
each to purchase 3 more! :p
