I'd like to see a Benchmade/Spyderco colab in the spirit of the Spyker. I sometimes refer to knives from either company as Spydermades now, given what I perceive to be a lot of ideas and qualities being traded between the two.
I don't see this happening anytime soon. I think the "trading of ideas" you mention is sort of a one-way street. With Benchmade using Spyderco ideas. The only feature I can think of in recent Spyderco offerings that could be linked to a Benchmade idea would be the ball-bearing lock. Which is so different that I don't think anyone can accuse Spyderco of "ripping off" the concept (as opposed to the Cold-Steel/ SOG variants of the same) I think I remember Sal mentioning that Spyderco had "come to an agreement" with Benchmade about the Spyderhole's appearance on the Vex (and the Skirmish, and the AFCK etc.) Does this mean that Sal sued Benchmade and they settled, or that Benchmade is paying for the use of the trademark? I know this has been discussed ad nauseum, but I never came across any definitive answer one way or another. Certainly the two companies have been at odds in the past.
Did I have to bring this up YET AGAIN? Why not? The more times it comes up, the more people will see it.
