Nick-nack's post reminded me of a couple of firesteel handles I did a while ago for a bit-of-fun competition:
First up has a built-in LED torch, so you can light up what you're lighting on a dark night:
The LED's are about the brightest 5mm ones you can get; picked up from CPF. They'll light up a small room quite nicely. It's powered by a CR123 lithium cell so the rod is good to go for ten years storage and about an hour's use. Case on this is a brass tube.
The other is just a storage handle big enough for a few fire's worth of cotton and a striker. It's waterproof to about a foot depth for an hour, which is as long as I could be bothered leaving it under. The case is a marker pen with the rod epoxied in there.
