SO HERE IS A LISTING BY A 100% FEEDBACK EBAY SELLER. SHOULD BE SOMEWHAT RELIABLE, RIGHT?

"Puukko Parker Cut co. Same as Hackman Puukko Very rare engraved knife V.G."

So it's Parker made in Japan of "carbon steel" not a Hackman, made in Finland of 440C. The blade back sways down, rather than being straight. It has cheesy "engraving." The blade has a much larger ricasso and is 1/2" longer. The sheath is totally different - not near one of the the traditional puukko shapes. "Same"

And this mope wants to start at $79.99.

He does confess in the fine print that it's a knock off but gushes at the quality and never points out all the differences that make it not the "Same." He says it is "rare." Like accuracy in eBay listings.

He says he's a knife-maker. :)

In a way it's almost karmic. A scamster using a knife produced by a vintage scamster to run a scam.

Some fool paid $280 for this fake Chinese Busse Hawkeye dagger on the ‘bay. I reported the listing as counterfeit, but I don’t think eBay cares.

They don't care. I have reported many things to them over the years and they do nothing. That's why I rarely buy anything from ebay anymore except companies that I've done business with before that I know I can trust.

Great work Investigator! It’s been apparent for years to do your homework when buying on eBay and you could probably find thousands of products that aren’t described correctly or are being misrepresented. So it’s kind of old news.

Yeah, but I guess it isn't all bad. Sometimes sellers don't even know what they have. That's why I like sellers that provide a lot of photos.

It would be nice if it was easier to report scammers or what might be honest mistakes. But then, they'd be so bogged down with reports they'd have to hire a huge staff to investigate them all.

I just looked at a couple of listings for old "1940s" or "Vietnam era" knives that had tang stamps clearly shown in the photos that dated them as post-1980's.
