Took the New camera for its first hike today...once I got the hang of it I got a few decent shots. With the rain we've had lately the trees look better.

I took a couple of Johns knives on the hike with me, this is one of them. I like this design a lot, he made it for his son to take Boar hunting...I would like a slightly smaller version of it.

I saw a few deer out today.

One of the cool things about certain areas of the Prentice Cooper W.M.A. is that the agriculture dept. of UTC does studies up there. There is almost always corn growing up there somewhere in the summer.

Combine that with the other wild edibles, fish, and wild life in the area and it's pretty easy to throw something together during the growing season.

I'm wondering if I could use these onion seeds like I use mustard seed in my soups. I grind up mustard seeds to add a bit of flavor.

Then later on I headed back down town to try a few night shots, some of these are 30 second exposures. I still have to get used to it, but I'm really liking the new camera.

Great pics mistwalker.
What camera are you using now?
That second knife you posted would look so cool with a slanted guard. I love that slanted guard design.

Wow, nice night pictures. The water almost looks like ice because of the movement.

Thanks man, I was noticing that myself last night when I was first looking at them.

Thanks Bryan.

The new one is a Nikon D3000.

Yeah, the slanted guard is a comfortable design eh :)

More great pics, as usual

Oddly enough, I am actually cooking venison right now. Now seeing a deer makes me want to hunt even more. Only a couple more months, I suppose.

Wow those are very crisp shots. Did you cook up that corn? Why did you cut it off the cob?

Thanks T.G., I may hit the woods deer hunting this winter myself. Usually my brother does enough for both of us and i only rabbit and squirrel hunt. This year I'm not sure how it will go.

Nice night shots!!

Did you use a tripod for those or did you just rest the cam at something fixed?

Thank you, that time I used the tripod. Sometimes I do just rest my other camera but I wanted slightly different angles from the shots I took a couple of nights ago.

Thank you.

Growing up in a farming community and my best friend and I always raiding the corn fields...sort of like Mary and Pippin raiding farmer Maggots crop...I've eaten a lot of sweet corn. I even eaten a lot of it raw on the cob. I was thinking about an experiment with some corn, wild carrots, wild onions, and crushed wild onion seeds cooked in my canteen cup like a succotash, or maybe even cooked rolled up in the corn husk like tamales.

Oh, yes. I grew up in California's old Central Valley. I (and my young scallawag friends) raided many a farm in our day. Especially the corn ... and the fruit trees (peaches, apricots, plums, etc.).

Those were the days! And Farmer Maggot never complained.;)

Deer hunting is fun, you should do it.

Rabbits and squirrel are fun, too, but the deer give you a big adrenaline rush when you shoot one.

Yep, we never took enough to cause any problems...just enough for a snack as we passed through and a meal that night on the river. I really miss those days!

Oh..it's not a new thing to me...I just got away from it. My brother is ever bringing me shoulders and hams...sometimes a "whole" half of a deer. So it just seemed there was no real need. This year he's going to be pretty busy.

Great photos and cutlery

Thanks for posting

Thanks Bill. Yeah, John makes some really nice knives, at better prices than a lot of people would expect....I want to get him to make one for me.

G'day Brian

That new camera takes a good pic

What type is it?

Does it have the option of recording video as well ? :D

Kind regards
Mick

Hi Mick,

Staying warm down there ?

Thanks, it's a Nikon D3000, I think it will take better pics once I get the hang of it a little better...it's my first Nikon.

Says it has a video function :) ... haven't really made it that far yet lol, give me a few days. I've been under a lot of pressure the last week...it should ease off a little now though
