More Fake Beckers - Heinnie Haynes

Just for the record...Heinnie is a stand-up company with excellent customer service. I have shopped there over 35-40 times and ive never had a problem with them or their products.

What the hell with all the Becker rip offs lately? There are more and more popping up all the time now. I wouldn't buy it, but I like the look of that machete though.

When you're hot, you're hot. Copies mean, well, you're somebody. You're not really someone in the knife industry until people start steeling your ideas. Like Ethan said, there has been Chinese knockoffs of the Joy of Cooking since the 70's. Now, everyone wants to be a Beckerhead, even if they have to ripoff the knives to be one:D

Kind of weird for Boker to do it though since they have the Tom Krein pocket bowie, which I believe is truly legit. Kind of like how SOG took the Spyderco Endura design. At the least Boker makes some good knives. :p

It's hard to knock simplicity. Simple designs that really work always get copied, hence copying the handle design. If I understand things I have been told about the knife industry correctly then to change just one aspect of a knife design, even slightly, in turn creates a whole new design and not subject to patent laws on the knife as a whole. Now...if BK&T has a patent on their handle design then it could be a different matter but it's likely that the copier would only have to use a different type bolt or thread pattern to get around that.

As Moose said, it happens. When one produces a good product at a good price and starts generating a lot of sales two things will normally occur. One is that someone will almost always begin to copy these products to make a profit off of the original products' popularity. The other thing is that "discrediting campaigns" will begin in order to damage the products popularity and sales because of that product having cut into another product lines' popularity and profits.

Guys,

The culprit is a Taiwanese company that used to make the handles and sheaths for the late Camillus Cutlery. They were most likely stuck with some large inventories of both and found a willing partner that could help them both make some money using left over parts....at Ethan's expense. It's the price one pays for producing a good product.
Ethan and KA-BAR will deal all of the knockoffs the best way we can.
Thanks for keeping us notified.

You know you made the big time when people start knocking your stuff off. Best thing to do is build ugly, plain knives like us and no one wants to knock them off. The Chinese like to knock off unique looking shiny things. So, a good test is this: design something and make a prototype, then throw it out in the yard and if raccoons start playing with it you can bet the chinese aren't far behind! (and in case you're wondering that's a Jeff Randallism right there, so please make the proper attributes when copying) :D

the chinese copy anything they think will sell. even rocks! geez.

just never make anything in a factory of theirs. they won't throw away extras, or the dies, or anything, and 5, 10, 20 years down the road, they'll make more ;) esp 2nd and 3rd shift ;)

i wonder if $100 and a sternly written letter would make them produce the dies and left over parts ;) then you have more stock! for uh, other projects. yeah, that's it ;)

now, i've NEVER seen one of these Boker things for sale in the states, used or not, so they can't be TOO popular.

those magnum knives are crap i had a magnum bonsai canoe with red bone handles first the shield fell off the handle, then the handles dyed my hand red everytime i used it.i gave it away.all my boker plus knives are good blades though, especially my krein pocket bowie:)
