More Farm Steel

Here is one forged from rusty, rusty farm steel (spring tine cultivator blades).

Mild Steel Guard slightly aged with Ray Richard's recipe
Big Beefy Macasar Ebony Handle (complete with handprints I forgot to wipe off)
OAL - 12 1/4"
Blade Tip to Guard - 7 3/8"

This is a question about construction of that type of handle. Do you use some hidden system for keeping the wood from splitting at the guard? I sort of thought just wood would be too weak by itself, but I've never tried one myself.
 
Nice knife. I agree the that the flats look good with its rustic original finish.

This is a mortised handle constructrion. I just try to get a nice tight fit, cut some epoxy grooves in the tang, and let the epoxy and pin do its job.

It has worked well for me so far... (keeping my fingers crossed)
