I imagine the concern is rust under the pivot and bushings, where it could be difficult to keep clean.
As a replacement blade a have got a blade for a BM 520 made from tungsten alloyed carbon steel (.5%C and includes around 3% of carbide formers) After a year i took the knife apart to look for rust. The pivor part was shiny clean. Guess it has seen the most oil.
No, that can´t be the reason. Guess, most ppl. fear the possibilty of rust. You may try to talk that thing down based on first or second or whatever hand experience but, most ppl. would keep on buying stainless.
I was always thinking, why the hyped hard use folders weren´t made from carbon steel. A SnG in carbon instead of S30V, that would have been straight IMHO.
