I need to get better pics of that Rifleman's Hawk. The head is stripped, sanded down to pretty smooth while still showing some good marks, makes it look old and used, and gunblued. You can't see it in the pictures, but the head has a lot of color variation in it from dark blueish plum to black. It turned out great. It has a good convexed and mirror polished edge. The haft is torched, soaked in linseed oil, and cord wrapped. Eventually, I want to add some brass tacks to the haft between the cord and the head.

By the way, that's my new "skinny body" after the starvation experiment. I'm still about 20 lb. lighter than I was when I started that experiment, but I've put a lot of muscle back on.

how do you like that hawk?
I was pondering for a small review, but if it's too much to ask, that's fine. :)

Looks great.

I like it. It is much heavir than the Trailhawk, but it also has a larger cutting edge and sinks into wood a lot further due to the extra heft. I like that the head is bigger. I loved the trailhawk, but the head on it was just a little too small. You have to really get some practice in and have good aim to efficiently chop wood with it. The Rifleman's Hawk has a cutting edge almost as large as a standard axe which makes it a lot easier. It's still not too heavy to carry, but I wouldn't suggest taking it with you unless you think you're going to have to chop some wood that will take more than a big chopper knife to chop easily. It's not as much fun to throw as the Trailhawk or the Norse Hawk. I consider this one a lot more a "work only" hawk than most. To me it's just a small axe with a good hammer on the back. I hope all this makes sense. I'm typing in between customers. lol
