One of these years I may get pix of all my khukuris and put them on a website.
My software has a program to help one build a web page, but I'm still learning just how to get around in computer land.;)

I wish my website looked that good. I've got to get down to the Indian market and buy Ashoka!!!!!!

That's a very nice looking website. I've only managed to stagger in here and lurk a few times in the last several months; so I'm only half up to date on about a quarter of the things that have transpired in the last 4 months. :( Again, a very nice site.

Uncle Bill, if you would like to revamp the HI website, I might be able to help some; well probably for no more than a week or so. :( I have a feeling this semester is going to kick my butt!

plus I work all day Friday Saturday and Sunday. :(

Beoram,

I just got your email and submitted my stuff for the Webring; you should get it shortly. ;)

haven't got the email yet - but went into the ring manager and approved your site - now you just have to paste in the code for the bar.

You could put the HI Site into the web too - I can send you an 'invitation' if you like.

I'll bet Ben will help you Bro. It would be a good thing really as the H.I.Website would start getting even more hits on it when the Webring becomes better known.:)

Beo does beautiful work. If he knows how to put the HI website there he's more than welcome to do it.

Uncle Bill (& any other interested persons) - I can walk you through it if you like.

(1) First, you need to create a create a WebRing User ID.

That's really simple - you just pick a USER-ID and password, fill in your birthday, &c.

(2) Then you can join the East India Militaria WebRing - this form is simple too; just fill in your website address (in the case of HI Imports, this is http://members.aol.com/himimp/index.html of course), the name of your website and a description.

(3) Then it's supposed to send me (the administrator of the ring) an email saying that you've applied, but it seems a bit slow (I still haven't got the message from ruel), so the next step is to email me and let me know you've done it.

(4) The most complicated bit is inserting the navigation bar code into your webpage HTML. The system should send out an email with a web-address for you to go to to get this navigation HTML code. Copy this navigation code into your clipboard (you know, highlight it and copy it). Open up the HTML file of your webpage with WordPad or some sort of text editor. I wouldn't use Word or a document editor like that because you need to make sure you save your HTML back out as text.

Once you have your webpage HTML code open, scoll down to the very bottom of the page. At the very bottom you should see this text:

< / body >
< / html >

and a lot of stuff above that. What you want to do is to paste the navigation bar code(which is in your 'clipboard') right before/above:
< / body >.

Save the file and upload it however you usually do and 'you're good to go' as they say ;).

[ruel I think you still need to do this last step]

It's simpler than it might sound - any questions just ask me.

cheers, B.

After a half dozen Heinekens I'm not even going to think about any of this until tomorrow -- Scarlett O'Hara syndrome.

Beoram,

I don't know how to put HTML fragments into my website. The host I use, Homestead, has this idiot-proof software that lets me do stuff without knowing how to do any HTML. I may just have grab the Ring's icon and use it as a click-on link instead.

That's what I did for my fossil website; I couldn't figure out how to put a Webring navigation bar onto there either : http://fossilpage.homestead.com

The end result is basically the same, though -- the link takes you to the Webring list.

Without the benefit of a half dozen Heinekens I've looked at the instructions, Beo, and doubt if I can get this done. Step 4 is the bug in the ointment. The only web publisher I have is AOL press and it is very poor on getting links to publish. I've tried to publish several, including the Paypal link, and they don't show up -- why, I'm not sure. It's a cut and paste job and AOL press still can't handle it.

Way, way too difficult for my pea sized brain, but if you can tell me an easier way to get some pictures and info on there I'd be glad to.

I send everything to Howard for the Khukuri FAQ, but he's swamped right now and you can never have too many photos, right?

I think the site is a treasure trove and very well done Beo. Great job and hopefully will be a good educational source for those interested. One question: why did you combine the Nepalese flag and the crossed kukris with crown of the Royal Gurkha Rifles? The Nepalese Army doesn't use the RGR badge and the RGR would never fly the flag.

Ruel - so you don't actually have any of your HTML code on your computer proper (i.e. on your hard-drive)? If you do, you can just drop in the code via a text editor, like I described.

If not, then just grab the icon and use it as a click-on link. I'll have to do some manual bypassing on the WebRing manager's page, but that shouldn't be difficult.

Let me know.
