Way, way too difficult for my pea sized brain, but if you can tell me an easier way to get some pictures and info on there I'd be glad to.
I send everything to Howard for the Khukuri FAQ, but he's swamped right now and you can never have too many photos, right?
I think the site is a treasure trove and very well done Beo. Great job and hopefully will be a good educational source for those interested. One question: why did you combine the Nepalese flag and the crossed kukris with crown of the Royal Gurkha Rifles? The Nepalese Army doesn't use the RGR badge and the RGR would never fly the flag.
Just so people aren't confused - there are two separate things. One is the East India Militaria WebRing (or whatever I called it), which is a sort of cross-indexing for people who already have their own Web Sites. So if you don't have a web-site, you can't 'put' anything onto it.
[I do need to get 2 other sites in order for the WebRing to survive (webrings.com rules). Ruel's is one, hopefully I can get another. I sent 'invitations' to Shah Jahans & Joel's Islamic Weapons site; and also to Oriental Arms & Ashoka Arts. I think it'ld be good to get the HI site into the ring too. If shops like Ashoka Arts are cross-indexed with HI, then people looking at the high-priced antiques may stumble into HI's more affordable kukris]
The second thing is my Bharaata-Shastra ("India-Weapon") site (formerly, the Khukuri & Gorkha site), which is my own webpage which I 'host'. Thanks for the kind words about the site design, John. I have tried to make it a good resource (I'd still like to try to get together enough information on katars to put up a sort of Katar Faq section, like Howard's site, though obviously not on the same scale).
But John, if you want to, you can send me photos & information and let me know roughly what you want it to look like and I'd be more than happy to 'host' a page for you within the auspices of my Bharaata-Shastra site. (I notice that the pix from your collection on the FAQ site are not very good resolution - is this because of the way you capture them or does Howard have to lower the resolution -- it's just a pity not to have better photos of such beautiful things).
On the RGR insignia - Nepal flag crossing -- I know that they'd never appear together in 'real life', but originally I thought it was sort of a nice pairing, since Gurkhas come from Nepal and since the UK Gurkhas are the 'lime-light Gurkhas' and the crossed-kukris part of the symbol is familiar. And I though, aesthetically, they fitted nicely together. But since it's no longer really a Gurkha/Khukuri page, I'll probably change it to something else eventually anyway.
JP - let me know if you want me to 'host' some pics & info for you.
cheers, B.
