more machete....

Correct me if I'm wrong but it's my understanding that the RAT machete will be sporting the same convex edge as the Condor blades.:thumbup:

Yes, that will indeed be the case. SO can't wait!

Anyone customize their condors? Pictures?

I haven't really found the need with any of mine, but I think Joe has played around with a few of his. :)

What would I do to a Condor? Maybe I could put a pretty lanyard in the handle and have some Indian beadwork and tassles put on the sheath. The machetes are good to go as sold.

Yup. I don't have any experience with those particular machetes, but I'ves heard that they're nice. They look to me more like the standard (non-export) line of Condor's parent company, Imacasa. Condors are tarted up Imacasas for us Yankees. The Marbles don't look to be as finely finished as the Condors, but they should be solid.

I've been meaning to pick one of those Marbles up myself, but I keep forgetting. They probably won't be around long, as Marbles is out of business.

I didnt know Condor was an IMACSA product.
In that case buy a Corneta. Ask any Costa Rican.
The guys say Corneta holds an edge far better. Just hearsay but thats what they buy.....with a days pay:eek:

I've had good experiences with the Condor Inca 12" and the Ontario 12" Improved Machete. The Ontario is thicker and comes with a thin edge that is easily made very sharp so it bites deep on wood.
I was one of the lucky ones to get a Condor Golok and while the knife has potential, it needed a lot of work. I'm almost ready to try it out again after sanding down the thick wood scales and thinning the edge. It has a distal taper but no primary grind so the thicker stock makes it thick at the edge, especially the closer you are to to the handle.
For $7 or so a Tramontina Bolo is pretty hard to beat. Just requires a little edge work to make this thin blade cut like crazy.

Condor is the ultra-premium line that Imacasa produces for the export market. The main Imacasa-branded line tends not to make it out of South America. Machetespecialist.com is the only place I know of where you can buy Imacasa machetes on the 'net.

ETA: doing a quick search I've seen Imacasa machetes pop up with the Corneta logo on the label (Imacasa printed in bold italics below it). Both are made in El Salvador. Something tells me this is more than coincidence. ;)

From an evilbay listing:

A. Its Imacasa
B. In Costa Rica, Imacasa made some of the Corneta Machetes.

so is there any discernible differences between the blue handled condors and the black? other than vanity? both seem to be carbon steeled?

The Blue handled ones I have are all 420HC, but I don't know if that is always the case.

Blue handled ones are 420HC stainless. Black handled ones are carbon. That being said when I checked the website last they seemed to have revamped them all with black handles. I think the new codifying system is that the stainless ones have a bead-blasted finish while the carbon ones have the black coating.

If that's the new system, though, it's a bit sad to me since the UltraBlac coating used on the stainless models is nothing short of magical. I guess that coating won't work on the carbon steel, hence why those ones have an epoxy coat.
