More on Epoxy moulds -- success!

Nice work man! See I knew someone would make this work. I envision there being all sorts of possibilities with this...

Well played, sir.

Good work. I would just add that you should run it by Ethan before you start selling scales as he does own the patent.

The BK-15P is sweet looking! I'm not sure I'd be able to bring myself to use it if mine looked like that. Actually, the white handles need some thin black pin-striping!

Thanks. But you aren't the first to bring up that question. Not that I'm planning on being any kind of commercial threat to Ethan or KaBar, but I wonder why this doesn't come up when folks make wooden scales or micarta scales -- only epoxy ones.

It's because you took a mold of an original product, rather than shaping it yourself. This is how the Chinese steal so many designs, which is very prevalent in the Remote Control hobbies (HPI Baja 5t retails for ~$1400 and copies made from molds of their pieces sell for $500). I know you made some changes, though, but it wouldn't hurt to run it by Ethan to make sure.

The white on polished looks awesome. Great work!
I've been wondering how to get some burgundy micarta-ish scaled for my 16.
Contemplating the lay-up method.
I can walk to my local TAP - may need to pick up a pint and check out casting my own.
Though, for onesie-twosie runs, it doesn't look like it saves money over buying micarta or wood blanks and shaping them.

My goal wasnt to save money. I fail horribly at cutting hex holes and I wanted to make some scales that I could remove and not attach them forever.
