I sure hope you guys like orange and black as much as I do.

My boss got back from vacation last night and this morning brought these over to me. He said "Looks like more of your stabilized wood. What are you going to do with all of those?" Without thinking, I said "Oh, those are for a sale."

This is how they come back from the stabilizers when they have been dyed and stabilized. I started cleaning a few at the bottom. I will post more photos as I go further with the cleanup. When they are all ready, we'll have a sale.

I missed the last big sale Mark, but I will definitely keep an eye out for this one. I need a block of either Redwood, Maple, or Amboyna. Burl of course. Not really decided on which one yet. Hoping something you have catches my eye. Is that maple in the bottom of that pic?

Whenever a batch of wood arrives from K&G, I always drop what I am doing and start cleaning it up. Maybe I am easily entertained, but I enjoy watching the transformation from a crusty piece of wood to what is hidden inside.

Here I have taken the blocks and run them through my drum sander. I do this to remove the outer layer of yuck stuff and true up the blocks so they will be flat and even thickness. This was done at 36 grit so the blocks still look kind of pink and gray. This is the first glimpse as to what is hidden inside.

The woods here are maple burl, lacewood, sycamore and curly hickory.
It's looking good so far.

The blocks are looking a lot better at 120 grit. These are some of the ones I will be keeping as blocks. Mostly maple burl here.

I cut a bunch oversized because I was hoping to see some of this wood on big fighters with sculpted handles. For comparison the block on the left is the standard size for most suppliers, 5 x 1&1/2 x 1.

This is one of the blocks I split into scales to see how the dye looks at the center of the blocks. Pretty Flashy and this is only 220 grit and sprayed with a light clearcoat.

I should be able to have these ones ready to list for sale here tomorrow morning. They're kind of strange looking but they might be ok. ;)

Maybe I will stay late and see what the sycamore and curly hickory look like.
My wife called and told me she already ate dinner, so what the heck.
Back to doing what I do best. ......Making sawdust.
