Found a few little pits on my AD:mad: I can't find my stinkin' marine tuff-cloth, and no one local stocks it. What would be wrong with me puting mineral spirits on it? That's what Sentry says to put on your Marine tuff cloth if it dries out. I have thought about motor oil on some of them. I might just try it. It really is humid here in central Arkansas, so I am going to have to do something. I guess that I could actually use my knives more:rolleyes: :D I know I have asked about this before, but I have yet to try anything, but it looks like the humidity is forcing my hand.

Can't find tuffglide to recharge your cloth? I've heard mineral spirits will work, but it isn't precisely the same thing. I'm surprised you got pitting. How long has that rusting been going on? Mine are very resistant to corrosion.

thats strange to have rust on infi.

hey, while i'm thinking of it here's a good trick to keep your satin finished blade looking nice n satin.

go to the hardware store and get some of the scotch bright pads... i like the green (coursest) color but the red (medium) color works too.

lay it on a countertop and try stropping the whole flat of the blade on it. it works great and if you have a steady hand it will leave the blade looking brand new!!

i put down a piece of carpet first so as the pad won't slip, or you could put a old mouse pad under it.

"Pitting" might not have been the best choice of words. On my active duty, right below the spine, toward the handle, the finish is a little rougher. It was in this area that I saw some rust down in some little pit like spots on the blade(very very tiny). It came off with a little rubbing with a dry clean cloth. The only other oxidation I have ever had was on the blade edge of my Mofo. I came off with some thumb nail rubbing. For anyone that doesn't know, it gets SO humid here in the summer that it can be hard to breath. The air just seems to surround you and weigh you down. I am not knocking INFI at all (Jerry don't come shoot me) I have never put any type of oil or preservative on any of the blades in question. So it's a wonder that there is anything left. In fact, I sometimes wipe off my AD with the shirt I have on(sweat and all:barf: ). I am just going to have to put a little something on them. I guess I could just put a little gun oil on them until I get another marine tuff cloth. The other blades that I treated with it are fine. I just can't figure out where it got off to. I keep thinking that I will find it any day.

Skunk, thanks for the tip. Does that scratch the surface of the custom shop logo? I would hate to shine it off:eek:

i haven't had it effect the logo and if it did i can't see it. i often use the stuff to get the minute scratches left by kydex off. try it on your user first to see how you like it or on the other side of the logo.
i do it right over the logo and don't worry about it.

busse lovers do it any old way!!

I live right near the water and the salt is hell on everything. What I have been using with great success is Breakfree CLP, giving my knives a good wipe down with it, has prevented any of them from taking the same kind of oxidation corrision. Plus it has it's own NSN!

There's something called Renaissance Wax that works great. In fact some car waxes work well too. Let me know how this works out for you. INFI is rather rust resistant and I have not personally seen it pit like ATS-34. It will get a surface oxidation but it usually doesn't dig in.

Jerry

I can get Break free CLP at the Wal-Mart! I use militec 1 on all my guns for lube, but never for protection.(they are on the pill)

The first thing all my folders get is a coat of turtle wax.

Clp is great stuff

we use 30wt motor oil on the backstop at the pistol range where I work part time.

Scratches from Kydex? We need to talk O Stinky One.

OK. I am on official dumbass!:o :o When I was looking at my AD, I was watching a movie with the light off. Only a table lamp was on dim. In the low light it looked like little bits of rust. But like I said, I wiped right off. I just got it out of the drawer and there was some more "pit looking" areas in a different place. I knew something was up then, so I brought it in the living room and put it under the q-beam. It is really really small kydex dusty type stuff that tries to stick to the blade.  :o I re-sheathed it,pulled it back out and there it was again. I feel like a complete idiot, but since I brought it up, I feel like I should set it straight. I swear it looks just like little pits in low light. Somebody feel free to kick me in the ass! Jerry, sorry to stir up trouble. It's those kydex guys:eek: They are trying to ruin you! It's a plot, and now that I have exposed it, I am in great danger. That happens a lot, depending on what you expose:p Sorry for being so quick to assume the worst. Must be all the crack making me paranoid.:footinmou ;) :D

I reccomend putting mineral oil on your blades. Protects great, harmless if you prepare food with your knife, and readily availiable. You can buy it at any drug store CHEAP!

I can't believe that you got so worked up over some kydex crumbs, alpha. Good gravy, even Busse's gotta eat.:D

Oooooooh Stinky, we gotta talk.

Or...you could ask Spearhead after he gets his!

soooooo... what colors of kydex do you use oku? and where do you hide the pics of this stuff???

IdahoSkunk,

Here is one he did for my Uncle MoFo LE.

He also did some for my Mr MeFo Tactical (I know you know what that blade looked like.;))

He will be doing some in Desert Camo for my INFI'coots as well once the show up.

mmmm, pretty dang nice!

oku should start doing them for a living instead of just for a few close friends. he would probably do good at that!

I'm trying Stinky, I'm trying!

My web site should be up shortly: okuden.net

There are several threads that have pics, but the one with the most material is "GPB sheaths" in this forum.

Also "Kydex eye candy" in the CRK forum (sorry Jerry!)

WTF,

Thanks!
