I made this up from clips of a trip that I took recently with three guys. It gives a pretty good idea of some of the things we do in the basic course.

Per Ardua 2008 Basic Wilderness Survival

The compass navigation portion I treated in a second video as it would have been too long for my 10 minute time limit on U-Toob.

Per Ardua Compass Navigation Hike 2008

Both of these videos are from the same trip. It is almost impossible to get good video of the instructional portions of the trip as I am doing the instructing. The next time I go out I'm going to bring my daughter along to run the camera so we will have some clips of the how-to portions of the experience. Mac

I want to thank you for your time and dedication to teaching. I have 2 teenages sons and even at 42 consider myself a newbie, so your videos provide a sort-of long-distance primer for us. Steve

Rockywolf,

Thanks. I started my adult life as a highschool history teacher. My first teaching job was here in Brazil teaching American misisonary kids. That's when I caught the Brazil bug.

The people that I take out there with me are all people that I am developing in leadership roles in other areas of my work. The bush is a fantastic classroom that strips people down to their basics. I find it keeps me sharp too. Mac

I too used to be in teaching--found the classroom (and the politics!) too confining. Now I am selling for a cell phone company! It's funny, I desire to get into teaching again, but in a "different" sort of classroom...yours has a great view!

Pict, I think it's great what you're doing down there in Brazil...both with your students out in the bush and in your "higher" work in Belo Horizonte! Keep it up, Brother!

From another Christian,
Ron

Pict,

Great videos. It looks like a real learning experience, keep up the great work!

We had a great time on this trip. Now that these videos are making the rounds down here in Brazil between former and prospective students my waiting list is starting to grow. Mac

Mac
know of any place up here in the states you can obtain those leather machete sheaths?
here in western oregon we have rain forest almost as thick as what is in your video, so machetes are very useful.
tfyt!
be safe...
Ted

Ted,

They are all hand made sheaths that I bought here in Brazil. I'm not taking orders right now but I am working on getting a bunch to bring home in August. I'm plannng to sell them to raise money for kit for the course. Mac
