  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

I have 100 or so of the spring clips you have pictured and have forged many in the last few years. They make wonderfull fillet knives and the like. The HT leaves a very distinct hamon with clay or torch. I quench at 125 in oil. No warpage and very clean.

Fred

I'm going to do an edge quench on this...What draw temp did you use?

Matt, Check with your tech guy again. The percentages in steel (or anything) are just that - percentage. That means 1 part per HUNDRED,not million. If your reasoning were right a bar of steel would have 100 parts of various elements and 999,900 parts nothing. One pound of carbon and 99 pounds of iron makes 1095 (more or less).

Stacy,
It's not "MY" reasoning, it's just what he told me the other night. I haven't forgotten about this thread, I just haven't had a chance to see him long enough for a thorough explaination. I do see your point and it makes sense to me. Perhaps we weren't on the same page when I asked him. I promise to find out tho as soon as I get a chance.
