My friend is the marketing director for a local winery. Without giving it much thought I reserved a table for their Valentine's Day dinner. I've never been to the place and to be honest, the fanciest place I've ever eaten is the CheeseCake Factory :o

I figured it would be pricey, but last night my father recommended I look into exactly how much...

Looks like I'm not getting out of there for less than about $200 after tax and tip, oops. At least wine is included, too bad I don't drink

For a moment I began to reconsider (that is most of the price for an AMS), then I remembered my girlfriend telling me she had to go to the mall yesterday and get something nice because, like me, she doesn't have anything nice to wear.

So now I don't really care, I don't know if it's because I have no option, but probably...

Anyway, here's the menu:

Looks like we're, in for a hell of a dinner :)

bah - you'll be looking good in front of your sweetie, and she'll let you buy as many knives as you want. I remember spending $250 in the 90s if the place was good...

For that price, the chef better be out back filling up my gas tank and waxing my truck while I'm eating dessert. Ain't no fogos :D But I hope that you have a wonderful dinner and more importantly, your lady friend is happy.

Last V day dinner cost me $450 iirc... Any place nice in NYC will cost money. The place we went to wasn't worth it but at least we gave it a chance.

sounds delish! hehe it might have been cheaper to buy a ring. :) Jody made linguini with home made white clam sauce, yum yum!

Looks to me like you got off cheap? Including drinks, a nice dinner could run you to the $500 range no problem (at least in Canada).

Man, you guys sure throw your money around! We just got back from a dental visit and then dinner; it cost me $21.57 and a tip for the dinner!:D.....:p Yes, I AM cheap!:o

Mmmmmmm. Kobe flat iron steak. I would pay twice that if we had a place around here that served real Kobe.

omg did you order off the McD's dollar menu????

Just got back from a local place here in Florida with a similar Valentine"s themed dinner. Don't mind springing for one of these.... EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. Though my experience tells me that the best food does not come with a fancy price. French themed entree's with a hefty price usually equates to a stick of butter per plate. Who wants to drop $250 bucks to purchase a night out with indigestion? Find a high end Japanese steak house with Tepanyaki and sushi. Lots of fun, good food, and you still have $$'s for an anniversary blade :D

hope the food tasted as good as the menu made it sound.
the important question in my mind is which Busse did you take to use as your dinner knife? :D

Nice menu, hope the two of you enjoyed it. The price does not look out of line for what they are trying to do.

I got by on the cheap this year (with resingirl in private school we are on the economy plan)

1 doz red roses from CostCo. $14.95. Continuing an unbroken string of roses every year for Valentines Day since 1976.

Instead of going out, I cooked dinner:

Seared sea scallops with herb butter pan sauce. ( a splurge at $22/#)
Risotto Milanese with saffron and parmesan.
Asparagus.

Dinner was a hit.
