...more than I could chew? :( / Ultimate Valentine's Day Dinner

We did not have a baby sitter for our dinner tonight. So we went to our normal Mexican food restaurant. It was busy, the waiter did not bring the right drinks, never checked on us, no drink refills (so we could even order the correct ones), and let us sit for about 30 minutes after we were done, waiting for the check. But the food was the normal delicious order we get.

I have done $200 for lunch, and had it be completely horrible! I ask you, how can seafood be terrible in Seattle?

Just try to enjoy it, and don't make a big deal about how much you are shelling out. Your girl will enjoy dressing up and going out.

omg did you order off the McD's dollar menu????

No, we went to a small local place and she had a chicken dinner while I had a Philly cheese hoagie sandwich. .:D I told her she could have whatever she wanted and that's what she chose. She is SUCH a cheap date.....I LOVE that gal!!!:D:thumbup:

I dont think the menu was out of hand, but I also worked my way through school waiting tables and bartending. I hope you had a blast

I remember one dinner at Ruth Chris in Crystal city over looking DC and National airport....It was $425 or so-I dont recall if that was before or after tip. I got engaged and worth every penny:thumbup:

Later we went to Bahamas to get married (cheap and stressless) and we had a down payment for our first house with the money saved:cool:

Last night I got a little grief for a $5 card I got her. SHe said I only paid 50cents for yours...my dollar store quenn:D I bought three huge ribeyes and a pound of 20/25 ct shrimp. Threw em all on the grill and daughter made caesar salad and lit some candles.

We all (5 of us) had a great time and a great meal for around $40:)

A dinner of that caliber with wine pairings for 75.00/P/P is ridiculously cheap by N.Y.,N.J. standards. Unless of course, when it arrives,it's so pretty that you don't

know wether to eat it or hang it on a wall and then two bites and you're done. I have had too many such experiences where after dropping a chunk of change,I

leave feeling hungry.Liquor and wine are always the bill inflators. Even a bottle of San Pelegrino can cost 10+ bucks in NYC..

Hope everyone had a nice V.D.

We hit our local Red Lobster since we had a gift cert. for it. Laugh if you want, but due to the volume R.L. moves in seafood,it's always fresh and tasty imho.

It was totally worth it if you ordered the kobe and it was the real deal. Hope you two had a good time.

Real Kobe beef is stupid expensive. When I was working steel in California my boss took us to a end.of job dinner. Said you could have anything except the Kobe, unless you pay for it. I figured why not. $145 freaking steak. Tender, juice, but kinda bland. The place made a big deal out of it. The. Chef even came to our table to ask how we.wanted em cooked because 3,of us ordered em. Not worth it to me, but if you ever get a chance try it. Everybody else loved theirs.

That's awesome. :D

Probably not. The U.S. limits importing of Kobe beef (it wasn't imported at all before August last year), and it's still really, really expensive. Japan's beef is delicious, but Americans know how to do a steak right--it's like a romance that could never be/only be with some limitations.

that's awesome!! I have been jonesing for linguini and clam sauce for weeks. Jody hooked me up, he is an amazing cook. I am not allowed in the kitchen when he is home. Philly cheese steak sounds yummy right about now.

We don't have to spend a lot to enjoy ourselves; we sat and talked, laughed, and had a nice meal together, enjoying having the meal brought to us...;)

$75.00 a pop isn't bad at all for an all-inclusive multi-course "gourmet" dinner.

I know a celebrity chef who gets $200.00 for a "tasting menu" (sample of each entree) at his restaurants. It was a once in a lifetime experience, so I went for it. I wouldn't do it again though.

I got off cheap this year too. The missus had to work late so I took the kids grocery shopping and let them pick whatever they wanted for supper. They opted for a big 60 count box of taquitos from the freezer section. Not bad with some guacamole to dip them in.

We are going out tonight somewhere sans kids. But this is Nacogdoches so the meal won't be anywhere near $75.00 per person, even if we do add drinks.

At a serious gourmet joint around here i would probably be droppin that $150 on wine and or drinks alone, so i think you did ok. The menu looked incredible.

Mmmmmmm. Kobe flat iron steak. I would pay twice that if we had a place around here that served real Kobe.

Garth

I went with the lamb just to be all fancy pants, she got the Kobe steak, but let me try a little and... wow... might have been some of the best steak I've ever had.

hope the food tasted as good as the menu made it sound.
the important question in my mind is which Busse did you take to use as your dinner knife? :D

I edc the MBC and had it with me, but amazingly enough I left it in the car and didn't carry ANY knife  with me in the restaurant. Somehow I made it through dinner (put it right back on my belt as soon as I got in the car), although that big meteor did hit Russia...

The dinner was incredible and I had my first drink(s) in a few years (don't worry, I wasn't on the wagon or anything ;) ), I'll post some more in the morning, I just got home and wanted to pop in here real quick and read a few comments.

Wow that is pricey! I hope you had a good Valentines Day! I just made brownies and watched TV. =)

For those jonesin for a good Kobe substitute -- Steve Johnson (the guy who designed the JAB knives for kabar) has a cattle ranch in Nebraska. He grows REALLY good Waygu beef. (makes pretty decent beef jerky, too)
