Morgan Valley camp knife

Very very Cool. That is one bad mamba jamba! I love the hamon, the handle shape, everything about it.

Besides the beautiful blade...how do you finish the ironwood? What grit on the grinder and then what grit by hand? Thanks for pics of a very nice knife

Thanks-

I use a lot of Ironwood, and I always finish it the same way. I only do as much on the grinder as I'm comfortable with, but usually it's up to a 320x J flex belt.

I then start hand-sanding with 320X, then 600, then 1200.

Then I buff it VERY lightly with white rouge, and then wax it.

It needs no stabilizing or oil finish.

Although this handle is MUCH more complicated in construction, the handle in my forged camp knife thread was finished off in a similar fashion.

Thanks :)

Very nice work.
Oh, great! --- Now Michael and Nick are having a modesty contest...

:D

Look, yer both superstars so let's just keep it straight here. Okay? You make those of us who really do struggle feel sad. :( Now I'm gonna go eat worms.

Every once in a while a truly outstanding knife comes around and I just have to look at it in and wonder what the hell makes me think I can pull this off. This is the second one that I have seen from Nick. The first one was the damascus knife with an ebony or blackwood handle that showed up here a few months ago.

Dave, you know the knife of yours that I think is outstanding.

I am still waiting to make mine. I have three in process right now and they will have potential to be pretty good if I dont screw em up. I dont know about outstanding though.

Hey, I may be modest, but I'm a legend in my own mind... :)

Er... Uh... Oh wait, that's not right :o

LMAO! Sorry, I'm a dork.

You guys flatter me, and make my head fat... :)

Michael, your kind words sure are appreciated, but don't cut yourself short!

Neither one of you guys has ever made a clinker and I never miss a chance to ogle either of your work. Two vastly different approaches at the same super level just blows me away. What a treat. My wife really digs Michael's knives and thinks Nick is seriously excellent hisownself; I eat worms. They're pretty good, after a while - worms ain't bad, not bad at all.

This particular knife just makes me reel. I have so many pictures of your knives in my inspiration folder I rarely add any more these days; but this one takes top billing. Nick you are my freakin hero, right up there with Lloyd Hale and Michael Kanter.

I don't think Hale is particularly modest however. ;)
