That is the best looking damascus I've ever seen. That's one heck of a knife! Anybody know why he quit making knives?

Beautiful mosaic damascus - that pattern was something of a signature for Steve - and I love the blued guard. I've never seen one of his knives that wasn't truly excellent. It's a crying shame.....

Tom - there's a long story that has been pieced together in prior threads. The reader's digest version goes something like this: through a combination of illness and mismanagement, Steve fell hopelessly behind on his orders. Unfortunately, he took deposits or payment on knives that he failed to deliver. He bailed on the whole knifemaking thing and is reported now to be making custom gun stocks or some such. I got one of the last knives he ever made, and that was at the end of a long struggle. It's a shame. His knives are exquisite. Which is proof positive that talent alone is no guarantee of success as a knifemaker.

Roger

(P.S. Tom - Thanks again for that lignum vitae bro!)

Tom,

To make a long story short: Steve Filicietti has a lot of deposits and some full payments for knives that he has never delivered. He is not currently working as a Bladesmith or doing anything to remedy the situation. He lives in the Australian Outback and is essentially unreachable, unless you buy a plane ticket and rent a Land Rover. :thumbdn:

It is an utter shame, a terrible waste of talent, and simply criminal.

I see that Roger, as usual beat me to punch. What he said.

And that is why you will never see a Filicietti in my collection.

The blued gaurd or whatever is done to it is really cool, I like that.

I still think that Steve was about as good as they come, in both knives and sheaths. I was both dissapointed and relieved that he disappeared before we had a chance to finish putting my order together.
