I've been having hard time finish sanding brass mosaic pins on the handle. Brass smears across the face of the pin during shaping of the handle and hide the mosaic pattern. When I hand sand the handle I can't get the pattern on the pins to show up without sanding excessively and thus changing the shape of the handle. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have found that when you go to higher grits in hand sanding, the pattern clears up and you won't see any "smearing." I have used copper mosaic pins which are more difficult than brass as they are softer.
