Mosquitos

i was kept up all night long by a damn mosquito.... he bit me a few times.. i'm going to have to try and hunt him down....

We have a 23 acre pasture behind us that is a large limestone ridge. Full of potholes that hold water. It is like a resort for mosquitos. No amount of spraying our yard can help, you kill the ones that are here and then the replacements arrive.

zman, the trick is to bring along companions who taste way better to mosquitoes than you do... :D

:D Reminds me of this email I got:

Bed Time...

I lie awake waiting for you.

As I lie on my bed, thinking about you, I feel this strong urge to grab you and squeeze you, because I can't forget last night.

You came to me unexpectedly during the balmy and calm night, and what happened in my bed still leaves a tingling sensation in me.

You appeared from nowhere and shamelessly, without any reservations, you lay on my naked body...

You sensed my indifference, so you applied your hungry mouth to me without any guilt or humiliation, and you nearly drove me crazy while you drained me.

Finally I went to sleep. Today when I woke up, you were gone. I searched for you but to no avail...only the sheets bore witness to last night's events.

My body still bears faint marks of your enthusiastic ravishings, making it harder to forget you.

Tonight I will remain awake waiting for you...

...you f@#$ing mosquito.

:D

i just remembered what a friend told me recently...

she has told me in the past about how her and her mom both were like mosquito magnets, even when noone else around them were even bothered.

recently she told me that she figured out what it was, a defficiency in some vitamin found in the blood stream. if you lack it, the mosquitos find you yummier...

i don't remember what vitamin it was exactly, but i will have to talk to her and see what it is. it would be neat if you could get injected with or eat alot of this vitamin to help get rid of the skeeters.

One of the B vitamins is supposed to help. Don't recall which one though. They bug the heck out of me. One good thing about ND though, we have about 7 1/2 months a year with NO Insects. Most of them can't fly with overcoats and snow mobile boots on.

I say a lot of deet for the skin, long sleeves shirt, long pants, a head net, hat, and maybe a flamethrower for the rest. I hate mosquitoes with the passion. I know they are part of the food chain for something, but I could do without them.

It is vitamin b complex. Take a few before going out, doesn't always completely stop them but it sure does cut down the biting. Your body naturally flushes the excess out of your body through urine. It will look fluorescent yellow when you urinate, but you can take as many as you like and not have any side effects.

i have a anorak with a built in skeeter hood. It works wonders at night when i hike.

i use 100% deet (appparently now illegal in Canada)....I spray my boots, socks, legs, (io often wear shorts for fast hiking), shorts, shirt, pack and neck head area. A wee dabb on the nose, side of eyes, ears and cheeks keeps em off the face.

I love the smell of DEET in the morning.

ah yes B vitamin...i think she told me B12, but that could be wrong.

jeff H, punny! ;)

A little off the subject, but I was reading the bottle of Permethrin Clothing Treatment that you are not supposed to treat clothes that touch your skin. I was going to do it anyway. Does anyone else do this?

God put them here to feed the birds and bats. He just didn't make enough birds and bats. A bat can eat up to 1000 of the little blood suckers every hour.:)
