Most Aestetically Threatening Knife

Some of Mike Snody´s knives look pretty intimidating....

Like this Warmonger (the name says it all).

"What knife looks the most dangerous in a combat situation and would most likely cause your attacker to cower in fear?"

Don't rely on any particular knife making perps cower in fear.

If your thought process is to carry something that will make others stop threatening you through intimidation by your producing/showing the blade to them, you are ill advised to carry a knife at all.

The attitude that one will merely be able to show a knife and have the aggressor back down from his aggressive postion toward you is really traveling toward fantasy.

To answer you question honestly,
ANY knife brought to bear on my person by another is enough to get the adreniline flowing. I will surely not care what blade he has in his hand when he attacks me. I won't be any less or more afraid/intimidated by the size, shape, color of the blade he produces.

The only difference from my standpoint would possibly be how long the knife blade was. [ not it's design ]. Some adjustment is required to defend against the longer blades.

Intimidation? You have already intimidated me by pulling any knife on me in an aggressive manner.

10" razor sharp, plastic handled, Forschner chef knife held in the hands of a very angry Italian-American pizza/sub owner vaulting the counter...personal experience.

Take your pick...

I carry the bottom knife whenever I go camping and it keeps most of the adults away from me. (seems to have the opposite effect on the young scouts... :D )

I think some of Mick Strider's stuff is down-right spooky.

Having said that, I agree with Brownie0486. In fact, a really bizarre knife might get you killed.

Let's face it, if I saw some guy facing me with some knife from Dungeons and Dragons, I'd figure the guy sprung a few 'ceiling tiles.' I might even shoot faster thinking that negotiating with a loonie would be counter-productive.

Aside from the other conversations as to the real-life benefit(?) of a wicked looking knife, I agree with the Civilian, or for me, the Spyderhawk. If the Warmonger were ground on both sides, I would really want to take a closer look at that. It is a reshaped Pesh-Kabz - you know I would have to love it!!!

I think an 18" machete would make me a little uncomfortable.

Getting hacked to death would be a bad way to go. Watching a limb fall from your own body has got to be disconcerting.

Each of the knives in my post are 18" long.

with very sharp, thick blades ~ 3/8 to 1/2"

Every time I pull it out (the bottom one), there is always a reaction.

One time I was asked if I was part of the security...

;)

You may look at them and think "Oh, they're quite pleasing to look at". Well, imagine a 6', 250 lbs. crazy long-bearded man coming your way with this thing waving over his head...

Anyway, I like to imagine it...:D

pendentive:

6 feet, 250? Swinging it over your head? charging in?

Go Ghurka--------

Wide arcing, long blades ?

Get inside the perps arc and he is almost sterilized. They are menat to swing and chop. Like a bat, once insode the arc it becomes almost ineffective.

Production scary: Spyderco Civilian hands down
Customs: Laci Szabo reigns supreme in my book. I don't think he's ever made a tame looking knife. In particular I'm thinkin along the lines of his Kamitachi.

Yes...I see the logic of your post.

...but would you argue with this guy? :D

2 handed technique.

Perhaps there is a misconception with this knife because it does not have serrations, or a sawback, etc. I agree that the Vaquero and the Spydie are scary-ugly knives...but they certainly don't merit an No....I-don't-wanna-die response.

One good swipe with a khukuri and you could short an arm, a leg, or even your head.

Haha I meant production knives when I started this thread, but HEY, why exclude customs :D

brownie0486, 'cower in fear' is just a figure of speech. If I were attacked, I would not pull for a knife until the last second and for sure I would not pull it out beforehand and let the assaulter know that I'm armed. A non-accessable knife is a useless one, which is why I always carry a fixed bladed dagger tip up from my belt for a split-second draw speed. Until the assaulter gets close enough to do serious harm or actually takes a hit at me first, I would not pull anything out.

But, for the sake of discussion, go along with it :) Knives that make others cower in fear.

Oh and btw, about kurkris, most people don't know that those can easilly dismember. The average Joe non-knife-nut would be just as intimidated by a standard bowie (forged in china with die cast handles for 10 bucks) as a HI kurkri I think

If you hold a khukuri, you quickly realize that the point goes exactly where you project your arm. They are very effective thrusting weapons as well.

While it is true that the average Joe does not readily understand the size and weight of an HI khukuri, the overall length and shiny-ness of the blade are reason enough to fill-up one's pants.

ew..what is that?

Photo (top): The bloodied khukuri is held upright while a rifle salute is fired in the background. Notice the extrodinary size of the knife.

Photo (bottom): The bull is tied to a Maula (post) and beheaded with a single clean strike. It is interesting that there appears to be a 6x6 inch beam on the ground to help stop the strike safely. These little details can make all the difference between a good show and a disaster.

If they don't get it in one strike, it's bad luck for the rest of the year.

If you look carefully - takes a minute because of the low-tech scan - you can see a dark spot on the left of the bottom pic - I believe it is actually the bull's head in motion...

The fact that it is the standard issue knife for one of the Top 10 scariest military groups ever makes enough case for me.

The Bagwell Hell's Belle. It is not as scary looking as some of the rest, but it is beautiful in a way that looks as it is designed to kill. Same with the HI Khukri's.
