Hello folks,

Only rule is 4 or under, with a good toughness steel. I'm currently looking at the SRK-C and Mora 2000. I'm leaning towards SRK-C because its prettier and has a less-cheap feel. The mora does have a better root-digging blade.

No, I'm not EDCing a trowel or shovel.

And no, I'm not plunging a 200+$ knife into the dirt and pebbles to cut roots.

Appreciate your thoughts, and any other suggestions; thanks.

4 and under as the blade length?

isn't the srk compact a 5" blade?

You are correct, my mistake.

4-ish blade :D
gotcha. i was gonna say the glock knife, but its 7 range i think.

not sure other than a steel that very tough. 5160, 8670 or in stainless 420hc, aebl......something like that.....

Depends on the size of the roots.
For weeds/dandelions/etc I often use a 4 inch flat blade screwdriver to pry small roots.
Anything more than that and I'd use something larger than you require that can handle digging and prying, or a trowel.

The SRK is a much better choice, given the size limits. Other than one of those twisted railroad spike knives I can't think of anything else good for that kind of work. As you say, you don't want to use a $200 knife to go ground stabbing with. The first rock you hit would be followed by sadness.

Used for cutting roots many, many times !
And it's 4"

Might help to know just what sort of roots you'd be digging with a 4" blade...but something like a pruner or a carpet knife would work to cut roots.
