Most awesomest knife for digging roots

If you have to dig out roots in a delicate, limited space area, or someplace where you can't swing anything (like around a lawn sprinkler that needs to be replaced)
I use a wood chisel and a hammer.

You could use a cold chisel as well. Cut all kinds of tough stuff with a cold chisel.

You could use a piece of wood or a rock to strike the chisel.

Great cutting tools, chisels. Don't see them talked about much here.

Take a look at the Dewit Garden Dagger. I don’t have that particular tool but I own several Dewit gardening tools and so far they’ve been great. Fiskars makes something similar but it has a forked tip. I have two of those and they work extremely well on smaller roots.

The Hori Hori is the tool (knifewise) made for the job. But, if you want to try something new, more knifey, this here fears nothing. It's definitely in the "tool" category and is made by a renowned axe brand. I have one coming because I like the blade and a leather handle is my go to working tool handle, anyway. So here you go...
Can be had at https://www.baryonyxknife.com/rifokn.html for some 50 $. I'm looking eagerly forward to mine. Should arrive beginning next week.

Get a cheap Cold Steel Bushman and chop/mod it any way you like. Round the tip like the bolo in post # 53. They can be had for $14 to $18 (plus some shipping possibly) if you shop around. Some folks chop machetes and add a digging tip.

EDIT: With the hollow handle bushman, you could add a stick to make a larger handle. Pitch the stick when you're done.

This would be awesome for what you're needing it for. I tried out that monthly subscription one time called Bespoke, and this was one of the things they sent me. Nice and sturdy full tang. Even has lines on the back for each inch. Look it up on Google, you can find it for sale that way.
