Most challenging steel to you to sharpen

D2 and Al Mar’s VG-10. I can get em sharp but damn sure takes a while on those.

D DaveHb - that’s one cool old Junglee.👍

Maxamet has been the most challenging for me, but really not that much more difficult than 20cv or even s30v ... on diamonds.

The knife I've had the most problems with getting sharp was simple AUS-8 on a CS Kobun. I only tried using freehand sharpening and usually I can get a knife reasonably sharp using Spyderco ceramic benchstones, but on this knife I really couldn't get it shaving sharp. I ended up selling the knife before I got my Edge Pro.

I have a small tanto folder in N690. It will not get properly sharp no matter what I throw at it. It can get a usable edge but nothing I would tout as sharp. I've done all sorts of steels on all sorts of stones but this one just has something wrong with it. I suspect there was a heat treating issue.

It’s a toss up between CPM S-125-V and Rex 121(CPM).
Rex-121 is a pain. Diamond stones almost feel like they start to skate rather than actually bite. My Creely Mako only get light touch ups now that it is properly sharp. Thank goodness.

Now a days I don’t seem to have an issue with sharpening any of the steels I own. Some take a little more time but all get hair shaving in the end. I can tell you when I first started sharpening it was on a bk2 that basically has 1095 steel and I couldn’t get it sharp if my life depended on it. Nothing wrong with the blade but a lot wrong with the guy trying to sharpen it. Still have the marks on my skull from banging my head against the the wall.
