Only four clipped choices and you can only pick one. It will take a few minutes to post the poll.

  • Tip Up Right Side
  • Tip Down Right Side
  • Tip Up Left Side
  • Tip Down Left Side

Wow I am in the 100% majority with my choice - tip up right side carry :D

None of the above.

Right rear pocket carry, tip down.

Unless by "right side" you mean regardless of front/back pocket. Then in that case I can answer.

In your case, it's still Right Side Tip Down.

Spyderco Military?

I think tip up/right will be clear majority. Years back, many folders were not drilled for tip up, but now many are...Of course, the Millie is still the exception with Spydies, in my experience, but there "might" be a good reason for that. Gotta check with the troops, I guess.
(We didn't have anything like that...back when...) :) We had sharp rocks and the sergeants had sharper tongues.

Voted Right side, tip down.

And nope, no military, its just my preference. I find it gets in the way far less for me (especially if I'm leaned over something working on it. My front pocket gets all scrunched, and its hard to get things out), while still being accessible. Additionally I tend to keep my keys LFP, and my phone RFP. Keeping the knife in RRP helpss things from getting jumbled up/scratched.

As a mini rant, I do find it annoying. I may be biased, but it seems as if there are less tip down options out there at the moment.

Not trying to get off topic here though, so carry on :).

If it can't be carried left side tip up, I don't buy it.
If it's over $50 it has to be a true lefty (i.e. liner or frame lock on the correct side) or completely ambidextrous (i.e. Axis or back lock).

Right side, tip down. If you carry tip up and you get excited when you grab your knife, you could, in theory, open up your knife inside the pocket and puncture your scrotum or slice the banana.

And if you tell me that putting the knife back in my pocket tip down might open it and I might puncture my scrotum, well that is just silly.

A lot of knives- like all CRKs- are drilled only one way so they make the choice for you!

Years back, many folders were not drilled for tip up

The first knives I ever saw with clips were always tip down, that was many years ago. I always assumed the inventers discovered that was the best way. Then Spyderco started selling knives with molded handles and the only way they could make those was tip up. The sheer quantity of those knives swayed the population which is probably the reason most knives these days are tip up. I understand this for the general population, I don't understand it for knife enthusiasts.

Tip up opens more naturally, and most people are right handed. No surprise, here.

Well, maybe with a Cold Steel Rajah or some other pocket sword, but if you carry that way and puncture your scrotum with that, you'll have other concerns.

Can't vote for just one. [emoji17]

I carry a waved Emerson, tip up ( of course), in my right front.

And either a Spyderco Military or pre 4 way clip Police ,tip down( of course) right IWB.

Again, not trying to start anything.

But, I don't think either tip up or tip down have any inherent advantages. It's more what you're used to. Tip up feels very unnatural to me. If I font pocket carried, I may be willing to adjust my preference. But tip up carry in the rear pocket just isn't safe, with neither gravity, nor the seam keeping the blade closed.

Again, not trying to derail. Carry on :).

Tip up Right side seems to me both the easiest way to quickly grab with a natural grip, and the safest way IMO due to the blade resting against the back of the pocket. I once had a knife that I liked a lot that was tip down only. One time when I was either getting it out or putting it back in my pocket I noticed that it made a slice right through my pocket. I have not carried that knife since, and I now will not buy anything that is not tip up right side.

There are ambidextrous locks like Axis and Back Lock plus some knife makers like CRK and DPx which make dedicated frame locks for left-handed customers. Spyderco will soon have left-handed models of Military and ParaMilitary2.

What I don't like is all the holes drilled on folders for more than one form of carry. Spyderco takes this the furthest with many models tapped for four-way carry. I think it blemishes the looks.

LionSteel in several models has a clever clip which can be switched from right to left side without any holes on the side of the scales since it attaches to the butt of the handle. That's nice.

I prefer and am used to Tip Up Right Side clip carry. I feel it's pretty secure with the blade against the inseam of the pocket. My extra safety assurance is a strong detent so that the blade doesn't open accidentally.

I prefer one or zero (LionSteel) holes on the side of the scales for attaching clips on folders.

Amen to that sentiment! I get trying to build a knife with universal appeal/carry style but oh crap ... IMHO

Agree with all those holes all over the knife. Can't stand it. Most Spydies with them have 12 holes.....too much!
Right front tip up for me, but I usually carry 2 knives....both front pockets tip up.
