Namaste everyone,

Just wondering what the most common size of khukuri is in Nepal? I'd suspect the 15 to 18 inch bracket would be the most common. Dyad'ko Bill and others, what say you?

Thanks in advance for your replies

Harry, for what it's worth, in one of the VHS videos I have on the Gorkhas, it was said that the average range is 16 to 18 inches.

Pakcik Bill.

I would like to add few Qs to Harry's:
  1. What is the common size of Khuk to be used for household puposes in modern days Nepal?
  2. What is the common size of Khuk to be used for field work purposes in modern days Nepal?
  3. What is the common size of Khuk to be used in multi purpose works in modern days Nepal?
  4. What is the common size of Khuk to be used for fighting purposes in the olden days Nepal?[/list=a]

Based on personal observation I'd say 14 to 18 inches would cover about 80 or 90 percent of khukuris I've seen in use in the outdoors in Nepal.

Mohd, I'd guess 10 to 12 inches for kitchen.

the 14 to 18 covers question 2 and 3.

Question 4 -- very big. Take a look at the ancient weapons pix.

Do you have any way of knowing what the average weight for the every day and the fighting khuk might be?
