Use a soldering iron that is already hot. Apply to the screw head and immediately remove the screw.
A heat gun heats a large area. You need localized heat.

Thanks. Just so I'm clear, I hold the soldering head against the screw as to heat it up, probably for a minute or two? Then quickly unscrew it before it cools off. About right?

I would think 30 seconds is sufficient, but otherwise you are correct.
