Most Expensive Production Folder

Custom Koenigs are going for $15,000 plus, that was surprising to me. I know custom Shiros can bring that or more.

There were a couple tables at Bladeshow where the cheapest folder on the table was $6,000 and the most expensive was $36,000. They were more works of art than anything.
$15k for a Koenig is nuts. I’d much rather have the night sky CRK in your profile pic lol

lol. Yeah, I believe you could buy several night sky’s for $15,000. Just so damn hard to find anyone willing to let go of them. I definitely feel fortunate to have one.

It’s one I’m kicking myself about not buying when they were more easily available. At that time though I wasn’t up to spending that much on a knife and now that I am they pretty much impossible to find. I’m not one to talk about “grails” but if I was, the night sky would probably be mine

Is William Henry still in business? And making knives?
Yup. And you might as well add them to them into the same pile as CRK, Hinderer or Strider as far as ease to find do to SEO after a quick search of "best knife".....thats easily another mfg you might find someone like that with.

Yes, but they are one of the worst in the entire knife market at losing 20%-50% of their value the moment you buy it. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one sell for more than its original price, I’m sure it’s happened but I don’t see it. I’m not saying you buy this knife to make money or as an investment. I’m just saying they are one of the worst for losing value immediately as something to consider. This may not matter at all if you’re buying it as a gift or simply because you like it.

This year at Bladeshow, a specific dealer was trying to sell new William Henry models at 40% off and they were sitting in his case all weekend. That’s crazy!!!

Side note , I went into a local jewelry store recently and they had a few models for sale. One was about $3,000 and it was HORRIFFICALLY off centered and don’t even get me started on the lack of action. It felt like a $150 knife with some, silver, mammoth and 1 tiny gem stone. However, I’m sure many wives have been duped into buying a “fancy” knife for their husbands bc they do look the part.

It’s like they are stuck in the 90s and never evolved past a jewelry knife. They do use some premium materials but lack in execution especially where the pocket knife world is today compared to even 5 years ago and even more so compared to 15-20 years ago.

And there you have it! There is a chair for every ass! Just kidding, I'd love to have the means to EDC that with no regerts!

full custom is the kind of the opposite of production. Even tho it’s from a production company… I wouldn’t call anything from the Custom Division a “production knife”
But its not really a custom, but that depends on who you ask.
When i think custom, I think of the customer asking for specifics. But those knives are not customizable, you buy as it comes. Or is it because of limited pieces? Why not just call it limited..

I would imagine there’s a lot more time and man-hours going into the Shiro customs. More than just an artificially limited piece, at least that’s my interpretation. Not necessarily made-to-order, but more of a one-off piece.

Well, that's unfortunate. WH was one of the first "really nice" knives I discovered in my descent down this rabbit hole. Course, I didn't know diddly about knives at that point, I just saw a lot of flash.

I'm having trouble with the "spirit" of the OP's question because when you have All The Money, you can afford to have things made bespoke for you, which takes us right out of the "production" market.

Anyway, these are people who can afford the ultimate statement of wealth: somebody else to do their cutting chores for them.

Rockstead has already been mentioned, and I guess that would be your answer.

If Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos were knife guys (Who knows) what would they be buying for production stuff?
Years ago, a poster asked what knife Bill Gates had in his pocket. A responder's answer was one of my all-time favorites: Victorinox Soldier.

The most expensive production knife is the Chris Reeve Ti Lock. Others are either not production or they cost less. Second place was the glitter gold GEC. Third was the Wenger Giant Swiss Army Knife.

wow, that’s a specific list. How much were each out of curiosity?

So..... Should I or should I not carry my Ti Lock?

The answer to this question will change from day to day, year to year. It’s like asking “what’s the best stock to buy?”.

As far as I know, Shirogorov collaboration models are the most expensive true production knives, i.e. factory made and not "custom" versions of a normal production knife.
