Most Formal Traditional Slipjoint?

While there certainly are a number of different knives one could take to a formal function, the first knife that pops to my mind when I think of a formal traditional pattern is of course the Tuxedo Knife.

The picture is not mine.

The two years that I have gone to the oregon Knife Collectors Association show in Eugene, there has been a display of old tuxedo knives. I would imagine that they were pretty common in the US back in the early 20th century.

Lotta fancy knives in this thread!!:thumbup::thumbup: In this election season, these are the ones that would get my votes - no debate! :D

Something slim and in pearl I would think.

1915-1925 Utica Whittler

How about a 3" pearl whittler? This particular one was actually around in 1910 so maybe it was at a fancy dinner back then:)

I believe any of these vintage knives would fill the requirements you have outlined.

You've got great taste in knives, sir.

Some knice steel out there folks, beautiful shots. :) Now if you're talkin' formal two things come to mind, pearl and sleeve boards. Here's a period appropriate knife withe a silver ear pick aka Swiss Army knife. This is a mid 1800s Josef Sziraki pearl sleeve board with all the accoutrements.

This thread has got me buying. This little guy (by a peanut for comparison) was in an antique shop cigar box of $5 knives. How cute is this? It's a sleeveboard with natural (unpieced) MOP or black lip or abalone. Quite a bit darker than any other mop I have.

That is a great little sleeveboard. I really like the look of that. Nice find.
