I just bought a Cold Steel Pendleton Hunter. It has a AUS-8 steel blade.
I'll get Bear Grillis to autograph it and everyone can dump on the Bear Cold Steel crappy steel knife!:D:D

I'm pretty sure that's not even the most hated Cold Steel knife on BFC. Haven't you seen the trainwreck that happens whenever anyone mentions the G.I. Tanto around Strider fans?

... ooops. *ducks*

What's with all the complaints I have heard about AUS-8? I like it. It's what the blade of my SOG Spec-Elite Two is made of, and I can get it shaving sharp, then use it a lot before it gets dull.
And in my opinion, though I don't own one, the Pendleton Hunter looks like a decent knife.

If it functions, and lasts, I have trouble calling it crappy steel, especially if it is something that is at least somewhat quality like AUS 8. Buck turns out great knives in 420. There are a lot of other factors that make a whole lot more difference than alloy.

I would say that overall, the most hated knives here are the Frost Chinese and Pakistani flea market specials.

The new pendleton hunters are vg1 not aus8a as were the old models. i prefer aus8 though . You must have purchased old stock or it could be an ebay purchase.(i received an email from cold steel warning of purchasing from ebay sellers due to the huge risk of knock offs)

The Applegate-Fairbairn Folder by Gerber also seems to be much-maligned...

For the record I have one and like it much, most of the complaints you hear about it are just plain false.

benchmade mini griptilian tanto....hate the damn thing :shrugs:

That's rich, Cold Steal worried about others copying their designs.

It was a half price close out. Checked in the catalog and it was made with AUS-8. I figured that since there are long lasting posts dumping on Cold Steel and Bear Grillis and this knife isn't made of carbon steel a chuckle and a little laugh at ourselves would lighten things up. This is supposed to be FUN and INFORMATIVE.

Probably anything that is advertised by LT. I have the Pendleton Mini Hunter and its a great small knife. I don't recall which steel mine is but I have had it for several years.

S&W knives have few fans here as well.

Oh Khalnath! Why did you have to bring up the G.I. Tanto???? Why????
You've doomed us all!
Okay, I've read this before a number of times. Can someone briefly tell
me about the convicted felon thing is all about?

Meanwhile, here's my entry for a hated knife. I got one to play with
and it sure is purty. I'm going to try to baton it in a few weeks. I expect
it to do quite well. (BTW, how do I get the blade back in the handle?)

NO! not their designs... their trademark. These are being sold with the cold steel trademark on them as the genuine article. You know it's kinda like what tons of counterfeit money will do to an economy. Judging from your sarcasm i am sure you don't care so i don't know why i even bothered to respond.

Can I cast a vote for the TOPS Tom Brown Tracker or any other similar WSK? That style seems to draw negativity like roadkill draws flies in summer.

<--- Red Scorpion Six Predator owner. I use it, and I LOVE it!

I strongly dislike overhyped Sriders. 5 dollars of materials for 300+ dollars doesn't seem right to me.

You used to see people go ballistic on threads about Mad Dog knives. It's quiet about them now, though.

The CS Pendleton Hunter is a pretty nice design, and AUS-8 is good steel.

I think Dork Ops gets the "most laughed at" award.
