Most ideal / perfect vs favorite.

I picked this Grohmann slimline at their factory in Nova Scotia.
I don't use or carry it much however every time I look at it I think it makes for the ideal EDC pocket knife.
I like that the tang is hidden down inside the frame so it's gentle on the lining my pockets.
I like that it can be pinched open, even with a gloved hand ( important in our canadian winters)
I like that it looks elegant and the blade is ideal for the most common of all my edc tasks ... food prep ( cutting that steak at a restaurant )
It's very comfortable in the hand.

As per the manufactures website, this knife was shown being used by Ray Mears in "Northern Wilderness" BBC series who spoke very highly of the knife

What pattern is this knife ? ( is serpentine a pattern ? )

if you had the most ideal and perfect daily knife for your needs could you as a knife nut stick to it everyday and would said knife actually be your favorite ?

I would have to force myself to do this, with a stockman such as the GEC 82 Dixie Stockman. That would perhaps be most suitable to my variety of uses; and I do like it a lot.

However, I like some variety, prefer other patterns to the stockman, and often pair my selections with an alox SAK - so I’ll have to settle for hardly ever being under-knifed.

I am not sure that I understand the initial question but here is my take. For me the GEC model 78 is pretty close to a perfect knife for me. It is a good size for an office worker like me. My favorite knife is my Schatt and Morgan Gunstock. I do not know what the blade steel is on the S&M but it seems to act a lot like ATS34 but I really don't know. It has sharp points on the handle that have a tendency to stick me when cutting something that takes a lot of force like thick cardboard boxes. The Model 78 has a rounded handle which is more comfortable to use and the blade steel is 1095 but it is very well done by GEC.

Take a guess which one rides in my pocket most days? Yep, the S&M. I guess it is the stag.

Basically what I'm asking is if you found a knife that should logically be your favorite because it checks all the boxes , would it in fact be your favorite and if so would you actually carry it most .

In that case, if I'm being honest with myself, I'd say no. I don't have enough fingers to count the number of times that a knife that looked perfect on paper turned out to be not perfect in use. There's always something. So the search continues, forever. And that's a good thing. :)

I guess the answer for me is also a no. The GEC 78 ticks all of the right boxes but my S&M is the one that seems to end up in my pocket.

It doesn't sound crazy that as knife nuts we simply carry what appeals to us for one reason or another.
Maybe a knife checks all boxes on the function side and not the aesthetic side or the Other way around, you never know how a knife will work out for you till you've had it a little while.
