so one thing spyderco is great it for sure is high value knives. out of each category of knife you would carry what do you think is the best for the money?
EDC- i have to say my stretch is with how well it cuts, stays sharp, resists rust, and is under 100
but my native is less than the stretch... yeah maybe the native...
Mini/backup- zdp manbug, cat, grasshopper.
Beater/utility- probably the resillience/tenacious line
Defense- i dont own one yet but the matriarch is definately looking like its being bought soon
Fixed- im a failure, i dont own a spyderco fixed but jumpmaster will be first

I'm rather surprised Delica/Endura or their equivalents in the Salt line aren't in your list.

Of all the Spydercos, those would probably get my choice for "best bank for the buck" in a good-quality knife with pretty darn good blade steel and geometry with handle ergos to match. Had a few of the "value" Spyderco line including the Tenacious, Persistence, etc and found them good, but not as great a value IMO by paying approx. 20-30 dollars more for the Delica/Endura Clipits.

i do enjoy my endura but i would much more enjoy one of the flat ground ones. the blade on that knife is way too thick for a sabre grind to be an optionwith how low it is started and how narrow the blade is. the lock is also a slipjoint in disguise. i have wanted to get an h1 knife, just havnt gotten there yet.

Caly 3 sprint. Best all round combination of looks, sharpness, comfortable grip, and rock solid lock-up. And the cheapest knife in my collection.

I think you were right switching to the native. I'm hoping my dragonfly salt will measure up too. Hoping to get a military or Endura or Pacific salt as a large folder.

The $20 byrd hawkbill I bought is pretty amazing. Rough around the edges but its function is great.

Otherwise, I love my Endura wave and for $65 or so it is an amazing knife. The sabre grind isn't ideal but honestly I haven't found tasks it can't handle yet.

The Stretch packs a lot of blade length in a very reasonable overall size when folded -- it is a great blade to handle ratio. I have a plain edge in ZDP-189 and it is very nice, and one on the way in VG-10 with the fully serrated blade, which I am looking forward to very much.

I love my Native, its a winner for me. It holds up to whatever I throw at it and the price point is great I wont have a fit if it gets lost.

Byrd Meadowlark should be the most knife for the money.
but I'll pick Delica since it's my most favourite Spyderco knife.

I love my Military's. Have three of them and two of them are carried daily. One satin bladed left hand model. And right hand either an all black model, or my old first release 93 model, which is my "beater" knife.

IMHO, millies are probably the best all around knife design I own.

I really love my native FRN...honestly I'm still trying to find something I don't like about it lol.

probably the Centofante 4.

It was only about $5 more than the Tenacious brand new. With better vg10 steel. Little bit longer handle than Delica, but still a small, lightweight package. great 3" wharncliffe blade. classy handle design to boot.

I'm not sure if the price was heavily discounted because it had been announced as discontinued, or if it was always that cheap. something like $35 from a reputable dealer.

For right around $100, the Sage 1 is really hard to beat when it comes to what you pay vs. what you get. I don't own one, but I'd venture to say that the FRN/ZDP Stretch is a pretty strong value as well.

The Endura 4 FFG in zdp 189 at The shoppe and works for about $100 including shipping. I have 1. It's a great knife and a Great slicer.

The Delica/Endura. The Delica is a wonderful knife, especially at about the $50 price point. You get a great VG10 full flat ground blade that comes razor sharp, along with a comfortable handle, tons of color choices, all in a small, lightweight package. I have no problem using mine for whatever cutting task comes up, and it has never failed me. Is the quality as nice as some of my other Spydercos like my southard or my PM2, or my many others? Probably not. But it has definitely seen more use and pocket time than any of them, and it's still hanging on strong.

i would say a delica for a folder and a moran for a fixed blade. both of the knives served me really, really well for the price. they would be my only knives if I should sell all my knives.

well a Gayle Bradley also a bang for the buck but because i live underneath equator line the blade got rust pretty fast.

Stretch fo sho. The ergonomic love child of the Endura and Delica. As far as a Beater, no SC but the RAT 1 is downright under priced for what you get. I so often see people spending more and getting far less it kinda hurts. Just wanna tell people to trade there glass breaker and seatbelt cutter for a simple quality knife.

Oh just to round out the categories. Fixed: I'd grab whatever sized Esee suits your taste/need. Mini: I like the Dragonfly 2 Salt in H1 serrated. As far as defense I don't carry a knife for such things, if it came down to it, anything with a point. Without training I don't think I'd be any better withe a Pkal than I would with a Matriarch or a KAbar for that matter.
