Sorry guys, this has nothing to do with blades...I got some bad news today. My best buddy (rottweiler) has been limping pretty bad this week. His ankle is even swollen and hard as a rock. I took him to the vet this afternoon and was totally not ready for this kind of news - I have to put him down. Yeah. He has Osterosarcoma, translation = bone cancer. There is nothing that can be done to help him. Probably already spread throughout his body and lungs. Poor guy, he has been the best, most loyal, troublefree dog ever and he's only 6 1/2 years old, not an oldtimer at all. So long story short, I guess I have to take him in tomorrow to be put down and that's it.

Why am I even mentioning this? I know it has no place here on the BF. But it's kind of funny. I ordered a Bushcraft knife kit from the UK a few weeks ago and seems like I get to pick it up from the post office tomorrow too. Even though tomorrow is gonna be a horrible day for us (my wife and I have been a mess tonight, thank goodness for whiskey) I am so looking forward to gettin the kit tomorrow. I think it's gonna be nice to have something else to focus on, I have a nice project of finishing the handle on it to complete it. Shoot, I don't know..... maybe in some way that knife will mean something a little more that just being another knife......

Does that sound stupid?

Sorry Schmittie. Sounds like tomorrow is going to be a tough day. Hope things get better from here.

Sorry to hear schmittie, nope doesn't sound stupid to me at all. I had to put a dog down once, and it sucked, sorry you have to do it to.

It does not sound stupid at all. That knife could easily embody a memorial gesture for your friend. Heck let the bugga' chew on some leather, or something, and use it in your sheath. Or maybe, get a few paw prints so you could try and use it as a design element in your sheath. You probably could come up with better ideas. Bummer news. Hang in there!

All you can do at a time like this is give him back what he's given you, which is unconditional love. Tell your buddy you love him and hold him as the vet gives him the shot.
And then cherish his memory.

Hang in there.

Bad stuff. I have been through it several times. Time heals.

Sorry to hear that, but having something else to focus on might be the best thing at this time. As others have mentioned it can be a tribute to your buddy. I've seen this poem posted on other forums at times like this, while it might not be as good as whiskey maybe it will help a bit. http://www.rainbowsbridge.com/Poem.htm

I am not much for praying and such but I do believe that all dogs do go to heaven, they have to how could something with such unconditional love not? My thoughts are with you.
