Most over rated Spyderco?

"The Delica and Endura have generally been held in relatively low esteem by the afficianado community. Their appeal has traditionally been to the mainstream buyer just looking for a solid, reliable knife at a somewhat reasonable price."

I don't know where you get that info but I am not sure I agree. The Delica and the Endura are not on my top ten but I respect both of them. The longer I am into knives, the more uses I find for these two models. They are the small and large jacks of all trades.

I see what Sal is talking about now though. I may not like the Native and it will be someone else's ideal knife. I may LOVE the Centofante II, and others may think it is a stupid design.

I guess all I can say is keep comming out with different designs and I will pick the ones I want and leave the rest.

Especially regards to Delica, I think handle economics have evolved. And the Delica has not, even as its new form, the handle is too short for me. Spyderco is able to make small handle such at my hand but in this case even in the new version if all short. You can't choke up on this model in which you are used to that option it is hard to go back. I is recently bought one for trading purposes and just can't see myself using it at all.

The Jesse Horn model was a let down for me ... still love the ZDP-189 but couldn't stand the raised "Jesse Horn" used for the grip on the FRN. I passed on my pre-order when I handled it. :thumbdn:

I thought the Ocelot would be a better knife! The paw-print's never "grew" on me, and it was smaller than i thought. I didn't care for the ergo's, at all.

Black Ninja I went through basically the same thing with the Ocelot. At first I loved that knife. Wrote great things about it and then noticed after using it that the paw prints were a bad idea but then I fixed that by taking them off and putting green canvas micarta on the liners. Later though after carrying it for a good while I started noticing my thumb bothering me. Long story short it was the ergos of the knife and everytime I stopped carrying it my thumb was fine but when I carried it for longer than a day it started bothering me again. Go figure. I ended up selling that fine knife due to that fact.

I think that Sal has the best reasoning-and not just because it is him!

Each knife appeals to certain people. The Ocelot is very similar to the Wegner and it is a very good skinning knife.

I guess "overrated" to me is a knife that everyone wants and then falls from favor. It does not necessarily mean that it is not a good knife, but rather, a knife that appeals to a certain market. So, TurnerIII, I guess that I would agree with this definition.

Overrated- would largely depend on your own personal expectation for the knife.

sal has the best of everything, are you kidding!!! haha.

i dont know what the most overrated spyderco is but i know one thing, it is NOT the Manix or the Chinook!!!!

Over-rated as in over-hyped? Or over-rated as in having expected way too much personally? The secret to selling anything is to play up the hype and produce in limited numbers. That way a rare thing becomes prized.

over-rated is soo undefined. When were these ever rated, and by whom ? Not sure I can add anything useful here, but one person's rave knife is another's so-what knife.

for example, I think the Delica is one of the best designs ever! A very functional cutting tool at a very affordable price. I have lots of other knives but the Delica (still in version 3) is with me everyday, a true EDC.
There are fancier locks, handle material, exotic shapes, steels, etc, but this'un gets the job done. So how could it possibly be over-rated ?

Some knives there is a lot of ELU noise about and anticipation for, and maybe you feel let down if it does not make you feel like it is "THE" knife, but does that mean it was over-rated ? dunno ...

ok...I don't know what you mean by over-rated, but I hate the Native. Never understood why people like it. The shape and size just doesn't sit with me.

I love the Calypso Jr, or did I already say that.
