Most painful tomahawk injury

Hatchet injury very similar to contestant on Alone at about 1:10, right along base of my left thumb. Healed mine up w/out stitches luckily but it was pretty ugly, could see tendon. This was the only injury I've ever given myself with hatchet, axe, machete.
Was watching this episode when it aired and called it to my wife right before she cut herself. With a sharp bit, a light tap is all it takes.

the crazy thing about the alone injury is it was completely unnecessary - she was trying to make a 2 inch thick stick into kindling...
absolutely not needed, it was already small

I just don't understand how silly some things 'experts' do on alone or similar shows happen.... they have much more 'survival' experience than I ever have had, yet do really stupid things. I have concluded they are not really picking people with real experience & actual solo survival know how.

Which is sad, I thought I could learn more from shows like this. (if anyone does know of a season specifically with a really smart survivalist please share, but I've given up many years ago)

My history with knife-related injuries is why I have never injured myself with a tomahawk, hatchet, or axe: because I don't try to use them! The folding saw is my friend.

There is an older show called "Dual Survivor" that occasionally had good tips on water and shelter prep - usually paired some mil trained spec forces type with more of a granola type.

Not a hawk but a battle axe, a replica/fantasy but made good steel, the cutting edge was about 12". It had a triangular back spike 3" at the base and 12" long; I was chopping brush in the backyard and forgot about the back spike, sunk about 3" of it into my back. Deep puncture but small, no stitches and little bleeding. 30 years ago and I still feel it in cold weather

Damn. Luckily you didn’t hit anything important with that spike!

Similar thing happened to my head with the beak of a fire ax, splitting wood under a low ceiling. Not 3" deep though or I wouldn't be able to type anything but emojis
