Most powerful whistle

lower pitches take more energy to produce, and are not typically as loud. They do however travel better threw dense objects.

If you need a loud, low frequency sound... get an emergency drum. Maybe a collapsible frame and a holdable drum head? Not terribly practical, but people have been communicating over long distances by drum for a long time.

Jet Scream works for me !!!

Holy crow - I didn't know Snickers could FLY!

What the hell do you feed that dog?

Oh yeah - did you get the package yet Mr. Pit?

I said I would take pictures, so, I have.

These whistles are only OK, in my opinion, better than nothing, but not good.

These whistles are good, but not the best.

These are the winners.

And my favorite, is on the top of this bottom image, it seems to carry the farthest. Strangely enough, it is not hyped at all. But it is darn good.

And the biggest surprise to me, is how good the mil-spec whistle performed, on the right in the image.

We tested at some distance, against wind, water and foliage rustling noise, and even out of sight, where my brother was off a bank. We felt like these were the type of conditions under which they might be used.

Not only is volume important, but the quality or pitch of the tone, that allows the human ear pick it out from amongst other noises.

YMMV,

Thanks for that excellent post— but you didn't tell us the name of that favorite of yours.

That is the problem, it is not really sold as one thing....

ITW Nexus makes it.... http://www.itwnexus.com/catalog/index.php/dw/op/a/8/c/24/p/75

But, it is sold all over, under different names, or no particular name. I find it locally at a local sports store, just hanging on a peg. Or over at REI, in the kayak section.

Campmor sells them... http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___84603

There is also a new version, but I don't know if it sounds the same, I have not had one yet.

County Comm has it.... http://www.countycomm.com/ITWWHISTLE.html

But, again, I do not know if it produces the same sound.
