Most "Sheeple Freindly" midsize to large size knives?

As most of us are aware, Sheeple are generally afraid of sharpened bits of steel, they immediately go into defensive "he's got a *weapon*!!!" mode and instinctively start cringing and crying for their mommies like the wimps they truly are...

to combat this behavior, as illogical as it may be, many of us carry a dedicated "Sheeple-freindly" blade, a small, innocent looking knife that won't trip the hypersensitive defective "warning" sensors of the sheeple....

most Sheeple-Freindly knives share one common trait, a small, nonthreatening size, typically the blade length is under 3" (2.5" and less is more common)and they're usually plain-edge, as serrations ("teeth" ) also tend to trigger the sheeple's "Danger Will Robinson, DANGER!!!" reaction....

what i've discovered is that, for some strange reason, the Spyderco Rescue 93mm, a *fully serrated* knife with an almost 4" long blade (3 5/8") doesn't seem to trigger the "Panic" mode in sheeple....

strange, logically, it *should*, it has a long blade, it has serrations, the handle is black, all triggers for sheeple panic behavior, somehow, the Rescue just doesn't seem to scare sheeple, a good thing too, maybe this is a blade that will help discourage the "long blade=weapon" mindset...

i think it's the blunt-tip Sheepfoot blade, the lack of a "point" makes sheeple see it more as a non-scary "utility" knife

....ironically, i'd hazard a guess that a good defensive slash from a Rescue would actually be *worse* than one from the classic "scary" "pointy" knives the sheeple are so illogically terrified of...

what midsize to large blades do you find Sheeple-freindly? is it the blunted tip?

I think it is without a doubt the blunt tip that makes it not scare people.

Its the blunt tip.

I use the 172 when I want to be discreet. I find that presentation, and the "click" from opening is the two things that will affect how NKPs see you the most. I tend to quietly, and quickly use my knives and then put it away. If there's any problem after that, I tend to smile and tell them that "It's okay, I'm a responsible adult!"

People are afraid of long pointy things in general. It is the penetration of a foreign object into ones body that causes the most harm. A slice, even though the bloodloss may be greater, is very rarely fatal. Its all part of the subconsious that instinctly recognizes what people should fear.

I think the Benchmade 550 Griptilians are very NKP (non-knife people) friendly. They just don't have a blade that looks scary but the shape is very useful. In fact, it's my favorite shape blade. Very similar to the Spyderco Terzuola (which I also think is very NKP friendly.

:)

who cares what the sheeple think. If you are within your legal rights to carry a certain knife, then do so.

Believe me, i could care less what the sheep think, i just thought this was a rather amusing subset of sheeple behavior.....

i mean, i've had more negative reactions to the Harpy than to the Rescue 93, and the Rescue is a *longer* blade....

The curved blades billhooks and recurves and the serrated blades seem to affect people the most--"WICKED".

The other thing is one-handed opening. If you whip it out and open it quickly, it freaks them out. Pull it out slowly and only open it with two hands and they seem a bit more comfortable.

Colors also get a reaction. A black bladed with a black handle will get a more negative response than a pink handled knife.

blunt tip+"teeth"=A SAW!
it's a carpenters' tool not a weapon ))
I beleive SAK is most sheeple-friendly

Maybe it looks like a small folding bread knife to the sheeple?:D

I've always thought that the Swiss Army Knife was the "Goodwill Ambassador" of knives. Nobody is usually afraid of them and they have more of a "tool" aspect to most people than most knives.

However, I always carry at least two knives...my EDC which is either a Benchmade 710 or my Sebenza and a SAK. Which one I pull out to do the job depends on the crowd standing around.

The "freak out factor" is somthing I've learned to live with.

Hmmmm, MY non-knife people knives are: Atwood Solar Arc, CRK Umfaan, CRK Mnandi, Sm, Sebbie, Spyderco Spin, and my Paul knife. These are all fairly small knives. I also think my Delica 4 won't upset non-knife folk. I am brain dead. You said med to large knives. These are all small. Hmmmmm, I think a Sebbie is sheeple friendly. I am trying to think of the knives I own......

I think a knife with a wood handle or wood inlays also seems less threatening to people. SAKs are very friendly. and people don't tend to freak out if you use the blade on something like a leatherman.

That's interesting about black blades freaking the sheeple. I've found the the reverse to be true. My polished shiny blades seem to envoke a more shocking reaction from the flock then the dull black ones. Go figure.

I frequently pull out this ancient old Gerber tool and pull out the blade to open an envelope or the bottle opener to pull a staple. I finally figured out its the snap of the wrist that slides the jaws out that startle people. One thing about it , they never ask to borrow the old reliable tool.

Swiss Army Knife, as others have mentioned works well. I have a few Spydercos in yellow, blue, and orange. These do not seem to freak out sheeple either.

a couple ofsheeple friendly knives
1. sak, you can have a sak as big as a house with a bazooka in it and people don't mind. I guess the red scales relax them.
2. case or any large trapper. maybe since most peoples dads had them they don't bother them.
3. case or any large stockman. same reason as above.

what will panic the sheeple
1. any knife
2. any knife that can be opened with one hand and fast.
3. any knife
4. any knife with a blade over about 2.25 inches.
5. any knife
6. any knife that is pointy.
7. any knife

this is a topic that 15 years ago wouldn't even be a worry but in today's world you better be careful what you whoop out to open that package or letter or you might start a sheeple stampede. I surprised by how many of my peers {redneck, white trash} don't even carry a knife at all. it's really shocking how you can be in a group of 5 people and there's only one knife. even before i was a knife addict i didn't leave the house without one. later, ahgar

I generally only carry knives to work, and I work in a warehouse so I can carry whatever I want and don't scare anyone. I get my balls busted sometimes when I carry a large-ish fixed blade on my belt, but that's it.

So I really enjoy Waving out an Emerson or flicking open a Manix.

But, if I were to get a job in an office and still wanted to carry a large knife (and I do):

Anything ultility-looking is good. My Sebenza doesn't get any "who's head are you going to chop off with that?" comments while my Skirmish does. Granted, the Skirmish is larger, but I think it is also partly because the Skirmish is so flash and the Sebenza just looks like a knife.

Non-locking and two-hand-opening is good. So my large Queen toothpick would probably be good.

A SAK or multitool usually won't scare anyone. While most SAKs are small, the One-Hand Trekker is large enough for me to get my big knife fix yet still Swiss enough to not scare most people. And the larger multitools can get me my fix as well.

And of course, something with a blunted/blunter tip, such as a rescue knife or sheepsfoot.

But like said above, anything can scare sheeple.
