Most "Sheeple Freindly" midsize to large size knives?

You could probably carry around an Opinel #12 and never really get and nasty looks. It's almost a 6" blade, but it's just so benign looking, that it doesn't frighten people.

I think there are three key factors in how a knife is perceived:
  1. Large size tends to create fear, but not all larger knives are scarey to them and some small knives will scare people if they're "dangerous" looking
  2. Drop points and other blade shapes that don't look excessively pointy relax people. Clip points and spear points tend to scare them. You could have a six inch spey blade and it wouldn't bother anyone.
  3. For some reason, having more than one blade relaxes people too. I think it reminds them of their grandfather's pocket knife.

Gerber Gator? I have gotten decent reactions on that one. Especially in an outdoor environment. I think the more plain it is the less scary it seems. That being said my lil temperance freaks people out and I'm always told how "big" it is even by people who carry spyderco militarys! So, who knows.

I have always found that my Buck 110 has not caused people to gasp when I use it.

I guess the recognition factor helps, since it's so common of a knife. Otherwise, it's a pretty decent sized folder that you think would scare em.

I've gotten looks for pulling out my Delica. Honestly, aside from 2 inch gentleman folders and SAKs, there doesn't seem to be many surefire knives in this context.

When I want to be unobtrusive, I take out my REKAT "Sifu". Then, if I want to use a really BIG folder, I go and borrow one of Bud Weston's folding "Orlando" monsters. :)

what i've discovered is that, for some strange reason, the Spyderco Rescue 93mm, a *fully serrated* knife with an almost 4" long blade (3 5/8") doesn't seem to trigger the "Panic" mode in sheeple....

I'm using a sheeple friendly, yellow handled, spyderco atlantic salt serrated where I work (restaurant) after the manager had told me, "NO WEAPONS IN THE KITCHEN!!" while I was using my kershaw leek to open a box. Aparantly 12 inch razor sharp chef knives that get sharpened twice a week are harmless and my 3 inch kershaw leek, dull as piss, is a weapon. :jerkit:

That's a good one. Perhaps you should carry a butcher knife :)
