Most surprising / disappointing knife?

Most surprising was the ZT 0350. I like Kershaw and read good reviews, but was still surprised at how nice the 0350 blem was for the money. I still can't find the blem, and the knife feels like one costing much more. It's solid, the fit and finish are exceptional, and it opens like a dream.

What knife have you bought that turned out to be much better than expected? How about much worse than expected?

I bought a d2 para a few days ago, after months of wanting one...when i pulled it out of the box, i was really disappointed...i just didnt like it at all...i dont know what it was but out of the box i was ready to sell it off...but it was used so i sent some time cleaning it up and smoothed out the action, touched up the blade and now im in love with it, even more so then i thought i would be...its been in my pocket for four days and im continually surprised but how great of a knife it is...

So thats my most disappointing and surprising knife

My most surprising was the Spyderco Meerkat. I bought it more as a novelty item due to the unique locking mechanism. I am actually quite fond if it and carry it often.

Also surpised by the Caly 3 - just a well-rounded EDC, which fits my hand. It seemed kind of vanilla until I started carrying and using it. Now I really like it.

Most disappointing might have been the Benchmade Mini-Griptilian, tied with the Spyderco T-mag. I didn't like the feel of the Mini-grip in my hand, and I had high hopes for it. I was reminded of how much I like a pronounced choil for my forefinger on a knife. Really liked the Axis lock, however.

The magnet in the T-mag I got was so weak that it felt like it was barely there.

I guess both of my disappointments had to do with having high expectations before I got each knife. Both of my disappointments really weren't that bad, which says that I've been happy with most of my purchases

0350 was a bit smaller than I expected. Handle design was fantastic for hand.

However, the blade wasn't centered and after some use it started to scratch the handle. The tip portion of the blade also hit the frame when closed, dulling the blade. The recurve didn't work for me either and the grind was too steep for me to cut anything efficiently.

I was shocked the first time I handled a Millie.

Now I find it to be the perfect size.

me too, i picked one up at a knife store and thought "this is massive" now i want one, lol. in time i will get one.

My digicamo SOG Aegis was a real dissapointment.
-Lots of blade play to all sides.
-Cheap feeling because of the weight.
-Very annoying spring, hard to close with 1 hand.
Sold it the day I received it.

My Extrema Ratio MF0 was a suprise.
Perfect size, weight, nice flipper and very sharp.

I've been accumulating knives for over 40 years, but stopped a few years back. Of course I found this place and the fever kicked back in! It took me months to decide what my first new purchase would be and I was all set for a new Benchmade. Poking around I saw that Spyderco had a heck of a following so I started looking at some of the models. At first I thought they looked silly, but I saw the Para D2 and it intrigued me. I pulled the trigger and it has been the absolute best knife I have ever owned. Not only are the ergonomics perfect for me, but the CPMD2 has been a pleasant surprise. Cuts like heck, stays sharp forever and not nearly as hard to maintain as I thought. It shares time with some other spydies & benchmade, but is King of the hill for sure.

I have a Millie and Sage in the mail...

it came as a real surprise.
and it was the most disappointing movie knife i ever did see...
talkin' 'bout "that thing" they had in Rambo IV.

I've been most surprised with the Kershaw RAM. I heard they were going to change production of the knife to China and I was seeing some really nice mods so I picked one up, despite not really being turned on by it. About 5 minutes after getting the knife in the mail I thought, "I need to pick up another on of these".

I was surprised with my Boker Magnum Bulldog, I thought it would be too small when I ordered it (had only seen a "profile picture" of the knife but figured for 10 dolalrs it would be fine. Has become one of the knives I EDC. Cheap, light weight and sharp.

I received a bit of heat for likeing the Magnum series (have had a few) and I personally have never had a problem and usually when I do I fix it.

Spyderco T-mag by far the most disappointing.:thumbdn:

S30V+Carbon Fiber+ Spyderco should =Top shelf........... But not having a lock or at least some action to keep it open are really a deal breaker. The magnet is very weak. The UKPK is a much better knife over all.

I feel for the T-Mag to work like they planned the blade needs to be under 2". Then the magnet might actually work.

The most surprising knife I have is my Blind Horse Knives Bushcrafter. So much knife in such an inexpensive package.

Most disappointing knife would be my BRKT Mountain man.Far too thin to be useful to me.

Bought a brand new Cold Steel Large Espada (5.5" blade) from a friend who had two. I like big folders, but this was just simply TOO much. I realized I was never gonna carry it.
I was fortunate to trade it for a brand new CS Outdoorsman.

It was a beautifully made knife though, a real pleasure to handle and look at. But impossible to carry. Worse even than an ER RAO.

Most surprising: Kabar Dozier folding hunter. Amazing fit/finish for a $20 knife and felt great in the hand.

Most disappointing: Benchmade Harley Davidson mini hardtail. Great fit/finish but by far the most uncomfortable knife I've handled, way to many sharp corners and points all over the grip. A triumph of form over function in my hand.

I was really surprised with some rough ridier slipjoints I bought a few off ebay the most I paid for one was 8.50 they were all perfect in fit & finsh blade centering the most disspointed I was with a knife is some high end slipjoints

Most surprising knife has got to be the BK-9. It was surprisingly light. Bbut it didn't dissapoint!

I'll second that. Much lighter than I anticipated but chops well.

Suprised: I am very much a fan of my Camillus heat. Has a very strong spring for open assist and the AUS-8 on mine holds an edge better than I expected and gets screaming sharp. It was very inexpensive and I feel like I almost underpaid for mine.
Also the Spyderco Military suprised me. Its large, light and just feel great in my hand. At first I thought it was too large but that feeling quickly went away after carrying it a while.

Dissapointed: My first Strider SNG, it had blade play that even with a tightened pivot wouldnt go away. It wasnt smooth opening at all. I have since gotten rid of that one and gave a different one a try thats much better. But the dissapointment of the first one is not forgotten.
Another is the Busse SJTAC. Its a great knife to some but not to me. I just hate the handle on it for whatever reason. I really wanted to like the knife....just couldnt like the handle. I own many Busse's and most I love but not this one.

Most surprising was probably my Endura 3. The knife was way bigger in hand than I expected, but it feels practically weightless
