Two months ago, would have been a great debate with myself between the CRKT KFF and the CRKT M16-14. Now, tho, I think I'd have to put my money on the CRKT Apache. I'm genuinely surprised that I'm saying that, but it is my present viewpoint.
THe long, rather narrow handle seems to fit me very well, and its long enough to be used as an impact weapon closed. The aluminum scales give a decent grip also. The blade is one of the few I have that has a true distal taper. It has enough belly to do efficient slashing, but, IMO, it is primo for stabbing/thrusting. If I ever have the need to engage in nasty stuff, my style is more oriented towards thrusts than slashes, simply because they are quicker to complete. The Apache's blade is nearly 4", and slim enough to go to the hilt w/out any problems, unless bone is struck. It truly can be a "touch" weapon, rather than one requiring major levels of power to thrust effectively. Last, it is very sharp. Wish I'd gotten more at the bargain prices at SMKW, but still may get one more. Oh -- good lockup also. I'm really sad to see them be discontinued. I think CRKT has gone so much for collaborative knives, that those designed in house simply have no real ability to compete, particularly when they cost more than most of the collaborations.
I still think the KFF and M16 are both good tactical knives also.
