most u ever spent on a knife without ever seeing in the flesh or handling it first?

Spent $650 for a knife from BladeArt that wasn't even photographed, just described over the phone. Still have it.

Spent $1000 for a knife from a forum member seen through a muddy photo. Don't have it any more.

I would say most of you guys are lucky to have stores where you can handle the knives before bying them. Since these stores are almost non existent in the Netherlands, I have purchased virtually all my knives without being able to hold them. I have only been disappointed once, by the Colt Firefighter. Not a bad knife, but it just doesn't feel right to me (linerlock is too flimsy).

^^whoa. that's hardcore faith & dedication :D

Have never bought a knife I have been able to hold, every knife has been over the net, mostly from board members. Most expensive was a Bagwell Hells Belle I bought from Brownie for $1,200. without even seeing a picture, actually I had not even seen any picture of one. Strider SNG, Large Sebbie, etc.

^^comes to show that knives/knifemakers' reputations are earned, in part, by experiences like these.

I bought a MicroTech Scarab without ever having handled a Double action Out The Front. At $350, I have to say that I was not dissappointed at all. I have bought several knives in the past, sight-unseen, and I'm usually never dissappointed when getting them from fellow BladeForum members. Now, a custom knife would have to at least have a picture before I'll consider it, if I ever get up the money to do so.

w00f!!

sebenzas been mentioned here more than once. but, i can't seem to get a boner from the bare minimalist design. i need a little more "heart & soul" than that. i've never handled a sebbie, but from pictures, it looks like a few boxy slabs of expensive steel fastened together.. lol sorry sebbie fans, but i guess i gotta handle one for those looks to grow on me, and for that price to be justified.

$265.00 plus shipping for a TOPS Anaconda 9. Ordered it through Ron Hood @ survival.com. Was nervous the whole week or so it took to arrive. Wasn't dissappointed, but it was too much knife for me. Sold it to a Hoodlum.

Currently I have on order a Beck WSK (aka the Tracker knife) that set me back just over $400 shipping included. Have my fingers crossed :)

Aftershock? You bought that piece of crap???

Just kidding! (heh heh heh)...I'm sure you will like it.

Now, in answer to your question...I have purchased many knives without handling first, the most expensive of which was $1000 for a Mad Dog Panther (now my EDC).

I highly recommend against this practice though...

$700 is the most I ever forked over sight unseen. The transaction went perfect and the knife is among the best I ever handled :)

Yep. I didn't think much of the Sebenza either, until I got the chance to handle one (actually it was three of them that I got to play with}. After that i had a lot of respect for the Sebenza.

i'll have to wait till the next blade show in cali to check out a sebbie.. but by then i'll have my duncan aftershock, and it might be curtains for my desire all other folders :D

$425 for my Dave Beck Wilderness Survival Knife. Had never held one but now I love the feel and would never trade it.

sight unseen.......
$400, but that was for a three blade trio.
I was going to say my Woodie Seb, but I did get to play with a regular before.
Hey, Anon, I know how you feel about the plain sebs.
Keep your eye out for cooling looking unique graphics (I think the regular lineup of graphics is WAY boring) OR get a woodie.
I now have two large regulars, a wood, and a tanto.

I've got a custom coming after month end(when I send the rest of the cash), 280cdn with sheath. I'm only going off 2 sketches(my first/basic, and the maker's redone to clean up) and 1/2 dozen emails.

other one thats getting done this winter is 80usd, going off a couple weeks of firing sketches each way and about 30 emails.

$80 on a Dodo for my father. That's usually as much as I can afford to spend on the ones that I do handle first as well...:(
