Most uncomfortable knife?

For me the MT LCC has got be the most uncomfortable knive I own. I love everything about the knife but it is painful to carry. What are some other knives that "hurt" to carry?

As much as I love my newly aquired TOPS CQT-747 Magnum folder, it is not the most pleasant feeling thing I have ever held. Of course, it is a HUGE folder and I'm sure I could put gloves on and it would feel much better.

I've noticed that it is much more comfortable to hold in my left hand (unfortunately, I'm right handed). I think it is because of the cutout for the liner lock on the left-hand grip. When I hold it in my left hand, my index finger flows smoothly around it, and I get a nice tight grip. When I hold it in my right hand, my index finger feels very uncomfortable, as there is no relief cut into the right hand grip.

Oh well, it sounds like I'm bitching more than I really am - I love the knife. It's fortunate that this is such a big beast of a knife, and not suitable for EDC (IMHO), as it is taking a bit of getting used to in order to find the most comfortable way to grip this knife.

The only other uncomfortable knife I own is my MOD Hornet. Again, I like the knife, but I just can't get a comfortable grip on it, so it does not see much EDC.

Joe, are you folding it up before putting it in your pocket? Seriously, what aspect of the knife is causing the discomfort? Or is it just overall size?

SHane,

MY TOPS CQT is my EDC, either in the nylon pouch, front coat pocket, or even front jeans pocket.

I'm one of those guys who has always had too much sh!t in my pockets, so I'm used to carrying around the weight! :D

When I carry the LCC in my front jean pocket, the handle digs into my groin causing discomfort.

Regards,
Joe Liguori

The SOG tool clip stainless version. I tried carving some bow and drills. One with the SOG. One with the SAK super tinker and one with the Leatherman supertool.

The SOG dug into my hand I was automatically started to shy away from it. It hurt which sucks cause that has almost everything I need on one tool. it is one of the toughest tools on the market.

The other uncomfortable knife I used to own was a Polkowski CQC the balance on that was awful I was sold it so fast.

Another one was the Tops wolf pup just didn't feel right in MY hand. I wish it did cause I really loved the look of it.

I am not trying to start a flame war just sharing my personal experiences.

Joe Liguori, this must be extreamly subjective, because i love everything about the LCC's ergos (for utility i love them), the only thing i dont like to do is lay down with that knife in my pocket (the kershaw vapor is my in-house knife)

For me the most uncomforable knives are the ones without clips like my leatherman classic.

The old style Rekat knives, with the lock release on the end of the handle, instead of on the side. That little lock lever always dug into my side when I would clip it on my waist, and it would poke me when I carried it in my pocket too. Plus they are heavier than hell.

Chris,

Hi Chris,

I really don't get it. You list Al Polkowski's CQ Fighter as an uncomfortable knife and the balance was "awful". Really? It was the "best of show" when it was introduced years ago, quite a few have been made since. Never once saw a negative remark. Never. I have one myself. Perfect balance. Can't imagine what was different about yours.

I'll tell yea ...My vote is also LCC ..And I've never carried it
for me the size was enough to put that sucker away .. but man i can relate shoos I have eeeeeeeevery That has to be mine knife out there and you no what I live day to day with my AlMar Ultralight man do I love that knife I take my Emersons out .and my microtechs ,and my benchmades and ,and and but you no what ?? it's all about comfort ,and It's not there for protection (It's a tool ) so you guys (and Gals) that carry these huge knifes around o well ;) ;) ;) ;)

I would like to suggest another candidate. The Jackie Collins designed D-guard Ontario Machetes are the most ackward tools I have ever handled. The handle circumfrence actually measures a full 5 1/2" at the center.

A Frost folder I bought when I was a knife novice some years ago, had a tendency to open in my pocket...so yeah it was the most uncomfortable knife...

A Ginsu knife. I'm uncomfortable being seen in public with one. Hell, I'm uncomfortable even thinking about owning one... brrrrrr.

ok I'm a knife snob. I don't care. Ginsus belong in TV land along with those guns that never run out of ammo and talking Transams.

My REKAT Sifu. The knife itself is comfortable to hold, it's just that when I sit-down with the knife cliped inside my front pocket, it sometimes "rides-up/rides-down" and digs-into either my leg, or belly.

Sometimes there are "trade-offs" in life that we just have to deal with.:).

Two knives come to mind when I think "discomfort".

The first is my small CRKT Viele Wasp. The best example I've seen of function following form. Beautiful to look at, but full of sharp angles and ridges, with a "gumby" insert in the thumbstud, which is positioned too far down the blade.

The second is the stockman. Yup, everyman's favorite pocket knife. The sheepsfoot blade rides really high when closed, I assume to give access to the nail nick. Any serious whittling with the main blade, and the back of the sheepsfoot will raise a blister every time.

I thought I was the only one but I have to agree that the Microtech LCC is pretty uncomfortable. the corners are pretty squared off but the most uncomfortable thing is the shape of the blade and it's angle coming off of the handle. I guess it was intended as a MBC kife but It looked so good and was so solid that I wanted to use it as a utility folder. the shape was all wrong for anything I wanted to do so I had to ditch it. Too bad because it was definately one of the coolest knives I had owned.
