Most under-rated Buck folder...?

Nice knives. Both are tight lockup and very smooth.

That orange one looks pretty familiar. :D I was kind of thinking the Spitfire, too. It's just an awesome knife. I wish my local Walmart carried the Slimline. I wouldn't mind picking one up.

If you get a good Vantage, I'm sure it's amazing. The one I got had early lockup, then after 50 openings had travelled to the other liner, and there was about a 1mm gap between the lock and blade. I've never even seen a gas station knife that bad!

Still on the Buck website and still on the website with an incorrect picture.

I would buy a version of that knife with the blade shape shown. In fact, I've purchased it 3 times from different vendors and each time, got something with a much smaller, pointier tip on it. After the 3 time and some time on the phone with the folks at Buck, it seems that a Photoshop error has resulted in an incorrect picture on the web site.

It's an otherwise nice knife if you don't push it too hard. I've had several and they loosen up with hard use. Wish they would actually make it as it's shown in the picture.

Hopefully, my dad's won't fail on him. He's not a hard user, but he will be in the garden with it and I think it should hold up for him. He likes that it disappears in the pocket so thoroughly with its deep clip. It's a plus on the golf course for him. Since he started carrying it, he notices the tell-tale pocket clip on folks everywhere he goes. It's better than the little tiny Gerber Paraframe he was carrying, what with the size of his hands (meathooks, I tell you!). It was an early Fathers' Day present and I got to handle it and liked it myself.

I'll throw my opinion in. I think the "700" series was the most under rated knives. The 701 and 703 were classy yet still working knives. They don't get the notice of many other Buck knives.

I think Buck missed the boat in not making the 819SS and 805SS production knives.
Love the full tang and S30V

OOPS!!! Sorry,,, Thread said Folder... My bad...

I think the original cross lock series of knives were way underrated,I've had mine since 1994 I believe and its a champ.i have heard stories of the knife failing but ive used mine on many deer and bear hunts and never had a problem.the gut hook blade worked better than a lot of the gut hooks out there. I found it a very neat package to take hunting.

I love the 175 and the 170 as well..
Email me..

I have several 175 knives now, found them brand new too! I'm good. But it's unfortunate they don't make them anymore. Things can be under-rated because people don't really know about them or how good they are.

I guess it's on us to let everyone know how good something is. So, I'll now promote the Buck 302 Solitaire. I don't know if it's under-rated but I overlooked this knife for years. And stories of the short blade (the main blade in the 301) turned me off. Well, I was wrong. This 4" knife fits the hand really well and that shorter than could be blade, is just right. Everybody should go buy one. Ok, I did my part.

I agree on the 302. I now carry that everyday in my pocket and 110 on my belt.

I'm gonna go with the 500. excellent little knife with a drop point, slim and nickel silver bolsters.

almost a perfect knife for all the "modern 110" wanters out there.

but they would still need a pocket clip and super steel

Doug, I agree. The 500 is one of the best small knives. Mine has a thin, stainless frame and S30V steel. Not super steel but up grade. And no thanks on the pocket clip. I sheath carry mine. It's a in city carry knife but I have skinned a coyote with it. So, it has enough belly. DM

You can order it off walmart.com. I get a lot of stuff that way with the free store pickup.

How about my favorite folder, the #112 Ranger?
Seems like it's older (and bigger) brother steals all the attention.

I agree 100%. The 700 series are almost over built

I would have to say the 285 Bantam. I absolutely love this knife! It has quickly moved front and center to my most carried locking folder. Inexpensive and light in the pocket. Feels good in the hand, too. However, I'll be getting a Buck 503 in the mail tomorrow. We'll see if it can kick the 285 out of my pocket!

Is it bad form to mention the 830 as being underrated? Unique, strong lock... good steel.
