Most Under-rated Knife

I got to go with Shane45-1911. I've got all three Apaches and they are great knives for the money. ATS-34 blades and aluminum handles they are tough functional and sharp. I've also got to include their cousin, the Seahawk, same ATS-34 blades and aluminum handles witha wicked fully serrated hawkbill blade.

I got a United Cutlery G-10 lockback with ATS-34 blade for $29 a while back from one of Mike Turber's sales, and that thing was great! It was my first ATS-34 blade, as well as my first experience with G-10, and it convinced me that all the other "expensive" knives would be worth it. I just wish I had bought at least 2 or 3 of them, as I passed mine on to a great friend. They also had a smaller liner-lock knife with the same materials, and I sure would love to have one.

If anyone has either of these two knives and is willing to let them go, let me know.

I agree that Schrade slipjoints and Mora knives are way underrated. But so is the Calypso Jr. or it wouldn't be out of production.

Yes! The Calypso Junior is one fine EDC. I was able to get a plain edge and a full serrated in micarta. I was looking to trade one, but now I may keep them. I prefer them over the Delica.

The Calypso Jr's definately fit the hand better. I fave under-rated knives are the Vapors by Kershaw, Urban Shark by CRKT, the AutoClips by SOG, and probably my fave, the Voyager by Cold Steel.
Thanks,
Matt

My vote goes to the Buck 102 "Woodsman". Small, light, tough and easy to keep sharp. It doesn't rust and if you lose it, no tears of regret, just hop on down to the hardware store and get another.

I carry mine every day in a BladeTech IWB sheath lashed to my boot.

Finally, an easy question...

The Buck Nighthawk. The Nighthawk is an excellent knife, at a very low price. This is a knife that you don't hear very much "talk" about, but is worthy of a "look".:).

I think the Benchmade Pinnacle is a most under-rated knife. Some I've seen have QC issues and some just don't like the aestehetics of the knife.
I have a First Production Run piece and it is still one of the better knives in my collection. Snaps open with SERIOUS authority, blade holds a great edge, no wiggle or wobble in any direction, blade sits dead center when closed and has the most trustworthy lock of any of my folders.

I think the reason it's unappreciated is because it came out about the same time as the awesome 710 and kinda got lost in the shuffle and never really recovered. What do you think?

I agree with Glockman99. The Buck Knighthawk is really unbelievable quality. Fulltang, comfortable STRONG non-slip grip, VERY durable, good Buck quality heat treat. Only downside is the steel, but then again it's not that bad becasue of the good heat treat.
I am amazed at how so few people talk about this knife.

I've gotta go with the CRKT Mirage -- steel liners, thumbstud opening, decent ergonomics, good fit and finish, takes a heck of a lot of abuse, all for $10. Other runner-ups would be any of the SAKs, or my slightly abused BuckLite (takes a wicked edge). Honorable mention goes to the Gerber Harsey Air Ranger.

Cold Steel Voyagers..very strong , light and easy to sharpen. Plus, I have a friend that put his through knife hell and still held strong. It's not pretty, the serrations were gone from cutting steel fence wire and concrete board, hammered the back side of the blade through all kinds of stuff that knives shouldn't be asked to do. Ran the non-serrated section over the stones and still got a great edge.

As a matter of fact, if there's any interest I might even do a pass-around with the Meyerco.

I would be interested in it if you decied to do a pass around.

I don't really have a under rated knife to post about, but I'm sure going to check out the ones everyone else posted about :)

Let me know if you do the pass around

One I don't hear talked about much, but like a lot. G-10 Harpy from Spyderco. I got mine for $45, and this thing locks up solid, cuts like crazy, and feels as solid as anything I've held. And I think the hawkbill shape is underrated for utility as well.

Pretty frequently folks look for “bullet proof”, “tank like built”, “indestructible”, “workhorse” and so on knife for reasonable price and Magna matches all these definitions. Why it is mentioned so rarely?

The same with Apogee in EDC knife category. Interestingly looking, very handy knife, pretty high ratio between quality and price – what more do you need for EDC?

Disclaimer: I have made my selection only among knives what are currently in production and what I have personal experience with.

I've handled the Outdoor Edge Magna and can confirm that it's a lot of knife for the price. It would be a valid contender for "most under rated knife."

I'd also vote for the humble Buck 112. Sturdy, well made, cheap and widely available. What more can you ask?
