Lets see some of your most used, tried and true woods combos

If I'm just going day-hiking or quick camping I usually only take a small-ish chopper and a pocket knife, but if I go camping or just to mess around in the woods, I like these :)
See if you can spot the trend ;)

good thread...for me, completely unexpected but it turns out it's my machete...day hikes or overnighters, it's been the one i always grab first.

the machete is usually paired with a 4-5" knife if i know i'm going to be doing some chopping for a camp fire. i sold my esee-4 a long time ago so my 2nd most used is the bk-2.

for day hikes where i just play around then my 3rd most used is my junglas:

i don't rely on a fire to keep me warm on overnighters so i don't use an axe all that much:

I mostly use my Baryonyx machete, Fiskars sliding saw, and Rodan, as well as whatever knife I have in my pocket. Lately that's been an Opinel No. 8

a few shots I have on hand[/QUOTE]

best machete i have ever had, for all of ten dollars.

That little bad boy has more river miles on it... it gets stuffed in the drybag that goes in the trunk of the pirhana H2. It too is one of my favorite machetes, I have 6 dollars into mine.

it is the large Condor Bolo and it's one of the top allaround beaters I've found. Weight forward, some tip, straight edge for drawknifing, swings like a tomahawk. Devistating chopper. False edge is great for digging fire pits etc. The knife in the last quoted pic is a Himalayan Imports Jungle Knife. It's a heavily tapered 3/8ths inch blade hammer forged down to a very good cutting edge, rosewood grip. Came with a nice leather belt sheath. I've got a pretty good collection of 10 inch HI blades, I'll see if I can't come up with some more pairing pictures tomorrow.

Thanks for the info. Tapping the knowledge\experience of others often saves me from following a dead end path.

Oh, I hear ya-these forums have saved me a ton of money through trial and error. The Bolo is worth every penny, for sure. It was my second machete and my first Condor.

Not me, these forums have caused me to spend far more than if I had never found this place. :D

I hear ya. I go in fits and starts. Rotating my time through different hobbies\interests at various times. Some dovetail which is cool. I have primarily viewed knives\hawks, whatever, as practical tools and didn't see a need for say multiple size class fixed blades or whatever. But I'll be darned if there isn't a little impractical knife\hawk etc. lust monkey riding my shoulder in the back ground now and then. :D
Did I need another machete, I think so, yes. Did I need a 5.3 inch bladed folder ? Um...no. Hell I had a Rajah 2 before that ! And a pile of other knives beside it. In my real practical world of knife use I find a 4 inch bladed folder to be the upper limit of practical use for myself. I find myself at times in a funny little dance of trying to be practical\realistic about my blade use\buying, but I find myself failing wonderfully and grabbing another one. :D
