Lol, indeed. The one I just got does appear to be differentially tempered, correctly. I did give it a couple light knocks against a rock to check, just enough to see how the blade would behave. Made an extremly tiny ding along the tip-edge of the kukri that you damn near need a magnifying glass to see, but it does show that the steel there is soft and pliable, whereas the area around the sweet spot seems to take more rigid damage. I figured this was probably the way a kukri should hold up. It's good to know that the limits of the blade are so you can be more mindful when actually using it so as not to damage it.
Not that I'm questioning whether a kukri can cut rock, obviously I'm questioning how durable the blade is against the occasional, accidental, bout with an extra hard object.
