I learned that I am woefully under-equipped on a daily basis. I now have added a flashlight and multi-tool to my edc stuff. And I alslo learned that while I don't need a bug out bag (since I live in my bug out location) I do need a "get home bag". Working on that now.

What did you guys learn?

Gusty was able to help me refine my sharpening skills. The use of a solid type sharpener (i.e. stone, diamond plate, ceramic rod, etc...) vs a softer material type sharpener (strop, nail file buffer thingy, etc...) is useful for getting rid of more material at the shoulder. Jerry Fisk mentioned that a lot of production knives come with much more meat than is needed at the edge, and that a good convexing will remove a good deal of that and improve cutting ability while sacrificing little in the way of strength, and certainly not enough to compromise the strength needed to perform the tasks our kind are prone to doing. (If done right of course.)

Also got to meet a lot of cool people. Was really glad you got to make it Colonel. Definitely glad you enjoyed yourself.

And Derek - I forgot - I now also have a functioning "Peanut Lighter" and one for my wife too. Thanks to you for that.

Good question, Colonel. I missed the EDC talk, but I feel pretty good in that category. However, I took a lot away from AIG's backwoods medicine talk. Bam. Vaseline.

Like y'all, I've totally restocked/revamped my first aid kits thanks to Doc. Also got some great ideas for my daily carry stuff. I learned how to drink mead, or what was left of it too.

The first aid talk from Doc was first class.........Derek found my waxed or tarred lline, YAY!!!!!!!!!......I learned to not trust you guys around pork stew.....LOL........

I will second this!

BTW what was that tarred line? I know he said it I just don't remember.

I learned proper chopping technique instead of just trying to power through a piece of wood take it at an angle from each way.

Also, vaseline is a god send. AND I got a pair of crocs... I can't believe I got them but I got them for $3.50 on the way home.

I found tarred round braided decoy line from a different source - they also make the "standard" tarred braided line, but I like the round stuff a little better.

I learned that dozing by the fire, in the rain, with a gout flare up, can be enjoyable, with company.

I also learned that watching folks eat good food, while you can't, sucks, no matter what company you're in.

I don't suppose anybody got Doc's presentation on video did they? I'd love to see it.

Vaseline, Gauze, Band Aids, Benedryl and Ibuprofin.

cold water first, until you can't feel it, if you can, do it again, THEN...

and non-occluded dressings :) that means "not tightly covered, or even solidly covered". loose dressings. let your body have room to breathe and squeeze the crap out.

Hey Doc......

Do you have a similar talk on your you tube ?......Inquiring minds, etc.......

I haven't put much up in the way of first aid, although I did cut the hell out of my finger once way out in the woods and I showed how to deal with it.

Wow, that's taking one for the team.

It was an accident. I did something stupid, but it was caught on film. I show my mistakes as well as the things I do right.

The fun starts at about 18:33 -
